My first visit to this restaurant. So many options. I decided on a meal (fish & 2 sides). Well, to my surprise a $13.99 meal totaled over $20. I inquired about the total. Was informed there’s an upcharge for grits (but it’s listed as a side and there’s no signage there’s an upcharge). I thanked the young lady and decided not to purchase.

Please add to your menu the items that have an upcharge (so customers can see and not be surprised when checking out).

EDITED TO REPLY TO THE OWNER: Sorry you didn’t agree with my rating. However, there still is no accountability for not having the upcharge listed so customers can see. I hope you enjoy your weekend.

Today was my first time at this restaurant. I ordered a grits bowl & chicken & waffles. I must say this food was absolutely delicious. I will definitely visit again & I recommend you check this place out

I ordered chicken wings and a side of fish w/ macaroni & fries.

Chicken 0/10- it was fried in fish grease because it tastes like fish. Fish was not good to me but my kids liked it. Macaroni was dark and looked nasty but it was okay 2/10.
Fries were great.

I gave 5 stars because you can’t satisfy everyone so no need to bring the business down.

If I try them again I would just do breakfast.

food was good but definitely not worth $40 for fish and grits and a plate of shrimp and grits with lemonade. plates that high the air should be working which it wasn’t and it was hot. I hated that the paper they put in top of the grits you have to scrap off your grits. And there should have been toast or. Biscuit that could have come with the plate. I’m new to this side of town and this was a first ordering and for the price it just didn’t match up to the portion.

As stated in other reviews … the lady at the front was not very welcoming…. I ordered the sausage eggs and grits plate… honestly I’m a lil disappointed in the portion size and the time it took for this little plate…..

I recently visited Fish and Grits and ordered the shrimp and grits. Overall, my experience had both pros and cons.

Pros:
The shrimp was divine—seasoned and fried perfectly. It was some of the best fried shrimp I’ve had in a long time. Often, fried shrimp is either too hard or overly salty, but this was just right: crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside.
I appreciated that the shrimp was kept separate from the grits using wax paper. That was a smart touch, especially for takeout, since it prevents the shrimp from getting soggy during transport.
My customer service experience was fine. I didn’t encounter the rude service that other reviews mentioned. I was greeted when I walked in, given time to decide, and wasn’t rushed or ignored. Nothing exceptional, but nothing bad either.

Cons:
While the grits were flavorful, they were too gritty for my taste. I prefer creamier, smoother grits that melt in your mouth rather than having a noticeable texture. That’s a personal preference, but something to note for those who feel the same way.
The wait time was longer than expected. From the time I placed my order to receiving my food, it took 20 minutes. While I understand that things are cooked to order, grits are in the name of the restaurant—there should be a more efficient system for preparing them.

Final Thoughts:
Would I return? Maybe. The shrimp alone was good enough to come back for, but the grits didn’t quite meet my expectations. If you love well-seasoned, juicy fried shrimp, this place is worth a try. But if you’re a fan of ultra-creamy grits, you might want to manage your expectations.

The food was prepared really well but the grits was runny and salty. The catfish and the fried broccoli was salty. I couldn’t eat my food so I wasted $30. I was really upset because this was the second time I ordered from here and the first time the food was so good.

I use to love this place! I haven’t been in over a year because it was always closed during posted open hours, the menu kept changing, the recipes changed so I stopped patronizing. I’m a die hard support minority businesses so I decided to give them a try again. The entry greeting was lack luster (the female appeared as if she’d prefer to be elsewhere. I greeted her and asked how she was doing; her temperament remained stoic). The decor hasn’t changed (it’s still a place you’d rather order take-out appose to dining in). I ordered grilled salmon and grits. The price was reasonable, my food was prepared swiftly and the exit farewell was much more friendly by a different lady with beautiful brown eyes. She was pleasant and courteous. I drove to my next destination and opened the container to a drippy grits mess. The grits were piping hot and delicious. The salmon was fresh and not fishy tasting and well seasoned. The grits were a little loose (watery) but had a good taste, however there were lumps in my grits meaning that they were not attended to as the began to boil. All true Southerners know you have to stir grits to prevent grit-clumps. For this I can’t give 5 ⭐️’s. I hope this was just a fluke and not common. I did finish my meal (all but the skin & those clumps.) I don’t know when but I’ll probably re-visit one day.
