We were visiting Decatur for a conference I had to attend in June and stumbled upon Brush while planning on going to another restaurant. This was a very satisfying visit. My boyfriend and I LOVE ramen and this was the best that we have ever had aside from a friend of ours making it for us. We live in Ohio and been to the “best” in our city and they have nothing on the quality that we experienced a Brush. This will be a must anytime I’m in Atlanta.

Nice ambience and decor. Food was excellent especially if you're into Ramen. The duck was super tender and the Bao was excellent. Will definitely go back. Staff was pleasant.

This place is on par with Umi for the best upscale sushi in Atlanta. You won’t find crunch rolls or other Americanized items here. Expect the highest quality fish and expect to pay for it. Amazing service as well.

I enjoyed my meal ?! I met with friends for an evening out and to try something new. I plan to make Brush Sushi Izakaya one of my goto places to dine. The atmosphere and service were wonderful. I had the Spicy Miso Ramen bowl. It had been years since I used chopsticks but it didn't take long to recall how to use them. I did get full so I had to get a doggie bag.

My wife, son & I walked into Brush Izakaya on my birthday at 5:00pm when they opened. The restaurant was completely empty other that a lady in front of us wanting to place a takeout order. For whatever reason the hostess gave no real explanation to the takeout person other than they were not able to accommodate her. We asked to sit at the empty sushi bar & we were told that it was reservation only. We asked the hostess if we could sit in the dining room again, she said that we needed a reservation. I then asked if she could take our reservation while we were standing in front of her & she easily said no that we needed to do it online. This was on a Sunday evening while downtown Decatur was defiantly not busy. We took our business to MF Sushi & was happy to spend $550.00. Dear Brush Izakaya, we will never enter your establishment again.

Brush is fine. The fish above average, some nice creativity in the dishes. Nothing blows me away. Too expensive to be a weekly sushi dinner but overall pretty good. But the main negative comment is the sewage smell. It's been there for years and it's there every single time I've been there. There's something truly unappetizing about smelling raw sewage while eating raw fish. They were aware of it 5 years ago and then 3 years ago, and then I stopped asking about it because I don't go that frequently, but have to believe there's nothing they can do, or want to do. Too bad.

My fiance and I adore this place. We always sit at the bar. The service is honest and on point. Always get the 7 piece sashimi plate. The sakes are high quality. This is truely the most freshest, high quality sushi you can get in Atlanta. Trust me- we have tried a LOT.

On a whim, we stepped into Brush on a quiet Friday night and were so pleased by our experience. I am not particularly a huge fan of Japanese cuisine, and find ramen to be particular hit-or-miss for me, but Brush provided a great experience for wary diners like us. We started with a Sapporo served elegantly in a glass and a mezcal cocktail served in a kitschy sake container, for her. We paired our drinks with the well-seasoned salt-and -pepper edamame. For entrees, I had the soy tomato vegan ramen, which was creamy, salty, and jam-packed with noodles, vegetables, eggs, and the absolute best panko-fried kabocha squash. She went for the bao route, sampling the impossible cheeseburger bao and the kabocha squash bao, both of which were outstanding, with the squash somehow being even better on the sandwich. Our dinner companion had the equally as delicious-looking chicken ramen. While the food was delicious, the atmosphere was equally as pleasing, with the pleasant bar with ample seating particularly catching our eye. Brush is the perfect spot for Japanese with ample vegetarian options in Decatur, and we can't wait to come back.

Came here after hearing great things about this place and was in The area so figured to check it out. First off, can't say how nice staff were and overall inviting. Seated because we had reservations and were handed menus which showed classic izakaya fare. Lots of Ramen choices and sushi. The big thing for me is they had a nice selection of drinks to compliment the food. To me, sake is good, but whisky with Izakaya food - sushi, ramen is underrated so was thrilled to see they had lots of asian whisky to offer. We opted for the ramen and a couple of rolls this go. I went for the miso ramen and amped up the spice to 3 ( rated 1-3)...Can only tell you being a ramen snob, i really enjoyed this bowl. Ramen were a bit al dente, soup perfect temp and spice level just hit right. The egg also had perfect consistency and overall I can only tell you how much I enjoyed this spot. Rolls were good, but will most likely be back as I hear they have omokase style offerings to boot. As far as drinks - really enjoyed the Nikka single from the barrel and also had an OF prior. Great spot and can only say will definitely be back and can highly recommend!!

I used to think Brush was over priced, but no more. They do have some fancy sushi for those who want it, and that's fine, but they also have nigiri and rolls that are priced very well for the quality they deliver. They also have some absolutely fabulous ramen that's just so delicious and really inexpensive for what you get. (Note, do not get the highest level of spice on the spicy miso ramen unless you've been told you have a limited time to live...) They also have a lot of other really terrific appetizers like the bao, the chicken kara-age (little fried chicken nuggets that have the Colonel weeping with envy) and garlic black pepper edamame that arrive quickly and disappear almost as quickly. If you get one of their really well-made cocktails (who ever heard of a Japanese restaurant with a really good bar?) then the edamame are a perfect counterpoint. It's a happy place. They have really great food and excellent service. We'll be back again soon.

The ramen was ok 7/10. but everything else we ordered was all very good 9/10. the duck was so good (tasted a little like foie gras), the toro uni ikura box was our favorite. Then we added the negitoro roll to top it off bc how much we liked the fatty tuna. price is very reasonable. Waitress really sweet. Strawberry cheese cake - amazing too. Some negative reviews on yelp were pretty misleading.

Awful service and the food was below mediocre. Staff didn't seem to care much about the experience besides coming to the table every 20 minutes to thank us for the patience. Go elsewhere in Decatur.

Atmosphere: informal / casual. Had a very chill vibeWait Staff: very attentiveDrinks: creative, tasty and overall fantasticFood: it was ok. The sushi rice seemed to lack acidity from the rice wine vinegar. We weren’t wowed by the sushi because of this. The RWV adds a different depth to the sushi. Unfortunately I didn’t quite figure out what was missing until I left the restaurant otherwise I would have provided feedback.Celiac: they took all the steps to avoid x-contamination. They were attentive to our dietary restrictions and were able to accommodate.People should try the place out and not just take my opinion as gospel.

We had a pleasant dining experience at Brush for dinner. Some of our food choices were delicious that I'd go back for more, while some are mediocre. Our favorites are the kabocha katsu dip (came with slices of deep fried squash in a Bao bun; also came with the dipping sauce that we ended up using for the duck miso bun to give it more flavor) , spicy tuna tartare (seasoned nice and has a spicy to it, but our favorite part was the lotus chips served with it) and uni hotate (scallop and urchin were super fresh but the urchin definitely brings it all together). I was disappointed with the Caesar salad and was intrigued that it supposedly came with a poached egg, while our order did not. It did have a nice smoky flavor from the Bonita flakes that I thoroughly enjoyed. The miso duck Bao was ok; they definitely skimped on the fillings and needed some sort of sauce on the side. Tekka roll was delicious but not my favorite sushi roll. And for dessert, we ordered the sizzling matcha brownie as I was intrigued by the sizzling part. It's basically a matcha brownie on top of red beans topped with green tea ice cream. The sizzling part comes with the cream is poured to the hot cast iron pan. I thought it was good and wasn't sweet at all. I definitely enjoyed the concept of it the most. Overall, our experience here was pretty good and glad we finally were able to try it for the first time. Service was great, but we did wait awhile food and drink orders. I would certainly come back and perhaps try omakase next time!

Really solid sushi spot. Their speciality Sushi's really blew me away. This is a medium priced sushi spot so be prepared to spend around 80 dollars (with tip) for two people. The parking is a bit odd, just make sure you go ahead and drive up the exterior ramp to the roof of the two story parking deck. You should have no problems.
