The food was delicious, service was great - a bit empty because we went right after regular lunch hour

I recently had a disappointing experience at Mellow Mushroom in downtown Decatur that left a sour taste in my mouth—quite literally. Upon arrival, I noticed the restaurant was nearly empty, which set the expectation for prompt service. Unfortunately, that was not the case.
Despite the lack of patrons, it took over an hour for my small pizza to arrive. The staff claimed that the ticket dispenser had jammed, yet I watched as customers who arrived after me were served without any issues. It was incredibly frustrating, especially since my little boy was eagerly waiting for his meal.
When the pizza finally arrived, it was underwhelming at best—not worth the long wait. While I appreciate that management comped the pizza due to the delay, I found it petty that they still charged me for my sweet tea. If I were in their position, I would have been genuinely apologetic and would have offered a complimentary drink as well.
Overall, this experience has left me disgusted, and I can’t see myself returning to Mellow Mushroom. It’s clear that their service issues are a contributing factor to why the restaurant was so empty during my visit. I hope they can improve, but I won’t be part of that journey.

The pizza is always great, but the service is consistently some of the slowest I have ever experienced. In 4 visits, I have waited an average of 35 minutes after the estimated time for my relatively simple to-go orders.

Our Server was excellent, but food definitely needs improving!
Dietary restrictions: We recently visited Mellow Mushroom in Decatur on W Ponce de Leon. We had not been there in years and boy have they changed. Our Server was excellent, but sad to say the gluten free pizzas that were ordered were like having pizza served on tortilla shells. They were very thin and overcooked. The salads were good but their salad dressing was very salty. The calzones were good, but one end of Calzone was burned on top. The inside tasted good and we had to break off burned top crust. Took home!
Parking: Limited parking in back that is free. Street parking is charged by use of parking meters.

I live across the street and love their Great White pizza and their Enlightened Spinach Salad used to get the pizza just about every week. I stopped going 6 years ago because I got tired of waiting 35-40 minutes for a $26 pizza (the cheaper cheese pizza is so bad I wouldn't feed to my dog).
My partner and I went again for the first time on Friday night, mainly to sit on the nice deck. No such luck. The deck is only 2/3 full of tables and all the tables were full. Except they weren't: two different tables had another, completely empty, table attached to it, and nobody was sitting at them. We were told they couldn't be separated, even though there was TONS of room in which to put the empty tables. So odd!
So we had to sit at the outdoor bar, where, unlike every other restaurant, we could not move to a table when one opened. Why? Because the bartender would not be able to get her cut, somehow. Of course: that's more important than satisfying customers.
So we sat at the outdoor bar window. After a minute, the one, lone, bartender came and opened the window and plopped menus down. In the process she quickly muttered something under her breath that was supposed to represent her communicating with us. No idea what she said. And she quickly walked away. She didn't even give me time to ask if I could just go ahead and put in the order for the pizza that will take 40 minutes to cook.
After waiting, she swung back by and mumbled something else at us. Again, no idea what she said.
After waiting longer, I waved her down and asked if I could just put in the pizza order to get it started. She muttered some single word or two and walked away. Again, no idea what she said.
Then we sat, waiting, watching her mix drinks.
Finally, we thought it was all too tortuous and was going to take forever, and decided to leave. The restaurant has great food overall. Great atmosphere too. But it screws up the service each and every time. Maybe we'll try again in another 6 years.

The waiter was nice and the pizza was decent. Kinda fell apart as I ate it. I pieced it together a cheesy game of Jenga which was fun

I’ll start by sharing that our server, Emma, was very friendly and attentive and her attention to our overall experience did not go unnoticed. She delivered our pre-dinner salad and beers promptly after we ordered, all while being very cheerful. That’s about it for the good parts.
Our party of 5 was one of only 2 parties dining indoors and year we waited almost 45 minutes for our lukewarm pizza to be served. Meanwhile, DoorDash/UberEats + to-go orders were flying out the door😡
Perhaps the most unenjoyable part of our dinner were the numerous houseflies and fruit flies that buzzed around us while we were eating. Disgusting.
I’m thinking twice before coming back.
Again, Emma was fantastic. The overall experience… not so much.
Dietary restrictions: Our daughter had the gluten free small pizza.

Gross salad - obviously old, brown iceberg lettuce was served. Can’t post the picture i took. Anyone making food should know not to serve it to patrons. Server actually asked if we wanted to return it.
Inattentive staff - waited outside and nobody came so I went inside and staff was sitting in a booth chatting with someone

Absolutely disorganized chaos. Do not waste your time coming here. Waited over an hour and a half for a to go order and finally just left out of frustration. Never got our food. I will not ever come back here again and you shouldn’t either.

In town for business and had a taste for pizza. Chowed down with that, along with pretzel bites with beer cheese. Yummy!
