It’s permanently closed. It used to be a very good place with horrible parking. Apparently the owner made a very quick decision and did not alert even the employees
Sweet Melissa’s closed for good on March 6th 2022. Owners retired after more than 30 years on Decatur Square. We’ll miss them and their yummy breakfasts!
This is an unfortunate first google review to make but one I sadly had to write. I went here to eat brunch this past Sunday with my date. Unfortunately myself and my date both found our food undercooked. I found my bacon, eggs, grits and French toast (what they call the Mad Platter) to be more heated up than freshly made. My date had a southern breakfast sandwich, and said it was meh. We hadn't eaten anything else since the prior evening and were hungry so we decided it was just bad and ate it anyways which turned out to be a poor decision.Hours later my date and I were both unfortunately feeling incredibly ill and both ended up getting severely sick Sunday evening. We both were vomiting the entire evening and both weren't able to sleep that night as a result. Monday was ok but we still were feeling ill and had trouble keeping other food down. It is now Tuesday and we both still do not feel 100%. I have never experienced food poisoning before but would not recommend this experience to anyone.I know this restaurant did not mean for this to happen but I can't shake this experience and the fact this happened to us both after eating here. The staff was accommodating and it is a cute place but I've never had breakfast food for myself that has been as poor quality. This is the only time I've eaten here before and it will unfortunately be the last. Hopefully this doesn't happen to anyone else at this restaurant going forward but this overall unfortunately ended up being a very unpleasant experience overall.
Get there early because there is a wait but it's well worth it. It's not just the food that creates the experience it's the customer service as well. The staff had great energy, always checking on us to make sure we were ok, and the food was exceptionally good. I highly recommend it here and encourage you to wait because it's well worth it.
Pleasant and laid back. They were VERY busy so I didn't complain about my food being cold. The waitresses worked together to get drinks and orders out; major plus. I would recommend visiting ??
I had the Reuben with home fries. The Reuben was delicious…it’s not a pile on the corned beef type of place but the corned beef was top quality as was the rye. The home fries were delicious, big chunks of potatoes, well seasoned and fried to perfection. The coffee was good and the service attentive. I paid about $19 for the Reuben, home fries and coffee.
We were in the Atlanta area recently for my youngest daughter’s bachelorette party. We specifically went to Sweet Melissa’s because we knew the owner’s daughter. Thinking it was a small neighborhood deli, we were awe-struck! It was THE hopping stop! There was indoor and outdoor setting. There were so many fantastic items in the menu, that we had a very difficult time deciding what to order. When the food arrived, the portions were supersized! We had to get to-go boxes. The food was absolutely to-die-for!! The price was unbelievable for the portion size! If I’m ever in the Atlanta area again, I will most definitely eat at Sweet Melissa’s!! It was the best restaurant meal I’ve had in quite a while! I absolutely recommend it to everyone!!! 10 stars!!!!
1st time eating here. The food was standard but the service was better. The food was hot, timely, and presented well. Maggie was our server and was really attentive. The hostess Ella was really sweet and attentive to needs of all patrons. Both ladies had a really great personality ?. I can add seasoning to my food but can’t buy good service.
Generous portions. The potatoes were really good, but the bacon was not done enough for my liking. Overall, it was a good experience. I will definitely be going back.
Sweet Melissa's has the artistic flare, professional staff, EXCELLENT FOOD, and an environment that reminds you of 'home' if cultural experiences are a point of inspiration for you. My sweetheart and I have been frequenting this restaurant over the past few years and the 'Team Serving' experience is one that NEVER let's us down. Since I like to experience a place several times before reviewing - IT IS TIME!!! First of all Lee, Divinity, Jordan, Ella, and Maggie were an exceptional team. Let me 1st say that the waiting list may be long but play a game on your phone, call a cousin you haven't spoken to in a while, keep yourself busy because that wait is WORTH IT!!! Within 30 seconds of seating us, a member of the team took our drink order, back in at least 2 minutes with fresh hot ☕! We were not ready to order at the moment. . .5 more minutes for us to figure it out but you would think that someone watched us sit the menus down... Immediately took our order. About 10-15 minutes later, the orders we were salivating about showed up. Filled up coffee before we could even think to ask. We refused to leave food on the plates 'togo' coffees were already in tow. Each staff member throughout our experience was thorough, patient, and professional. They treated us as though we were the only guests in the restaurant and I love that the team is diverse ethnically and culturally. There was a 30 minute wait and every table was full but somehow, it never showed. I don't know what they are doing at SWEET MELISSA'S but we love everything about it! I cannot wait til next time! We ordered omelets (1 shrimp and 1 festive/don't remember name), french toast, cheese grits, fruit bowl. We even recommended the introduction of a pineapple upside down french toast because of how fresh the fruit was. We split omelets, etc as usual and that food was soo well made and soo delicious. . . GOODNESS! All I can say people is - Sweet Melissa's is DA TRUTH!! Definitely WORTH THE WAIT!!!

Very good breakfast menu with a lot of variety. The service was great. I would definitely recommend for a great breakfast or brunch option.
While the food was really good, the service completely ruined the experience. Servers were slow and inattentive. They did not follow up and drinks were not refilled once. An order was incorrect and it took at least 15 minutes to receive the right item. You’d think that having multiple servers covering the entire restaurant that it’d be more cohesive, but it led to more confusion and people not being taken care of properly. Working in a restaurant for almost 10 years, I can understand how it is easy to get in the weeds, however there’s a difference between in the weeds and lack of effort/attention. This was a case of the latter. So much potential. Fix the service and you’ll have the best brunch restaurant in the area - hands down.
Wonderful and kind staff. Hot and fresh inhouse made food. The decor was definitely neat. This place is a small joint but a pleasant surprise. Perfect for a lunch date or random stop. Great music and all of the food coming out looked delicious. Prices are fair for the freshness and made in house. Two bathrooms that were clean and had nice toilet paper...not the cheap toilet paper. Def will return if i come back.
We visited for a late breakfast. We were seated immediately and had short wait. It was well worth it. The food was very good. It was not fast food. It was a real breakfast. The eggs were prepared exactly as I like them, the grits were good and so was the sausage. There were five of us in the party and no one complained. When we started to eat it got quiet. The service was awesome. The wait staff worked together and it was good to see. If you get the chance you must visit Sweet Melissa's.
Visited from out of town about a month ago. Absolutely delicious and service was great!! Had the veggie omelet and my husband had the shrimp and grits!! Great!! One of the best meals I have had in Atlanta and we are there at least once a month!!
