What first grabbed my attention? Gizzards. Yes, gizzards! And before this visit, I never really understood what they were. For the uninitiated, chicken gizzards are part of the bird’s digestive system—essentially the muscular “stomach” that grinds food since birds don’t have teeth. It’s a quirky bit of biology that makes for some seriously nostalgic comfort food.

My grandmother used to make gizzards all the time, so seeing them on the buffet instantly took me back. These were tender, well-seasoned, and paired beautifully with the other Southern staples on my plate.

Having eaten my way across Georgia, I found myself subconsciously comparing dishes to favorites from other spots—but The Steakhouse held its own. I left satisfied, reminded of home, and genuinely glad I got a real taste of Middle Georgia’s soulful cooking.”
