Very disappointed. Normally outstanding. This had to be the worst steak I have ever eaten. So much gristle that I left most of it on the plate. Mentioned this to the hostess as I was paying. Reply was "I'm sorry, that will be $52". Just noticed that this review page, under "which dishes do you recommend" specifically lists "Ribeye Fat and Grissle". Must be a recurring problem. Nice place to eat, judt avoid the rjbeye.

This place has been owned by my great uncle and aunt since 1972. I have been going since I was little, and I continue to go as an adult. The food, the prices and the people make this a must stop location during their season.

If you're looking for rustic, then this is your place! The deer Lodge is over 50 years old and has served generations of hunters in the north Georgia mountains, with good food and warm hospitality. If you order the T-bone steak, expect it to come with a piece of meat, cut and fied on the top because it's so big it won't fit on the platter. Arrive early if you want a baked potato because often they run out closer to the end of the evening.

First time we tried this place it was decent. It was several years ago, but this year it seemed to have gone downhill. The sirloin was absolutely terrible. No taste no flavor and all fat. The wife said the chicken was tasty, but the french fries were terrible, soggy and greasy.

Worst ribeyes we have ever had. All fat and not the least bit of flavor. Prices are good but if you can't even eat it what does it matter?

Deer lodge Dinning on the Helen Ga road....WARNING if you are in a wheelchair don't even try to get in...there is about 4 to 5 inch step in the doorway... but that is not what I am so mad about...they could not just say "sorry" you can't come in. they had to be the hateful and rudest people ever...my daughter in law asked if they had another entrance, she tried to explain we had a wheelchair and we could not get in the front entrance...well this woman that was handing the seating told her it was not her problem somebody was in a wheelchair and it was not her problem if the wheelchair could not climb over the step..She was loud and very hateful..we were so embrassed we just left without saying anything...no use in us all acting the deer lodge staff

Tables were too close together so difficult to get in or out from the table. Food was great with lots of choices and our waitress was fabulous with a great personalty. Dinner prices were reasonable too.

Foodie Review

I had high hopes for this restaurant, but unfortunately, our Saturday evening experience a couple of weeks ago left much to be desired. We endured a 40-minute wait in the cold before finally being seated, and my family of five was eager to enter. The waitstaff were friendly and attentive, and the food portions were undeniably generous. My husband and I both ordered the ribeyes, which were so massive that they practically eclipsed the dinner plates they were served on. However, what disappointed us most was the lack of flavor in these steaks – they were astonishingly bland, not even seasoned with salt (and I'm particularly sensitive to salt, able to detect it in the air). There was a noticeable absence of butter, seasoning, or any effort to enhance their taste. While I didn't expect aged steaks, it's well-known among steak connoisseurs that aged steaks require minimal seasoning. The coleslaw was equally uninspiring, resembling a bowl of mayo with a scant amount of shredded cabbage – devoid of seasoning and drowning in mayo. The children's dinners were no better, appearing to consist of reheated frozen items. My husband and I devised a plan to salvage the situation. Thankfully, our Airbnb had a well-equipped kitchen, allowing us to take those enormous, unseasoned steaks to go. We heated some butter and added seasonings and herbs in a pan, and the result was surprisingly delicious.I sincerely hope that this was just an off night for the chefs at the restaurant. While we gave it a try, if we ever find ourselves back in the area, we'll opt for a different dining choice.
