We were seated after less than a 15 minute wait. We got a table by the window which was great. Now let’s talk about the food. I ordered the fried shrimp basket and my husband got the local fish fry. My shrimp were heavily battered, but had no taste. The french fries were barely warm and it seemed as if they had been sitting around for a while. My husband’s fish was ok, but he also said it was tasteless. The next time we visit Jekyll Island, we won’t be eating at the Wharf.

The hush puppies we got as a starter were way overcooked. They were dark, brown and crunchy. We tried to send them back, but the server said that’s just the way hush puppies are..

I ordered the fish and chips and the fries came out room temperature. Overall, not a very satisfying meal.

I had the opportunity to have lunch at The Wharf yesterday while touring Jekyll Island. I’d read several reviews beforehand, though I tend to take those with a grain of salt.

My observations:
I loved the setting. Dining alongside the water is always tranquil, and The Wharf certainly lived up to that. Yes, a few birds were eager to “assist” the bus staff with table clearing, but that’s to be expected in such a waterfront location. If that’s a concern, indoor seating is available — though on such a beautiful day, eating inside wasn’t even a consideration for me.

I was greeted and seated immediately (arriving just as the afternoon rush was winding down). My server, Julia, appeared promptly and greeted me warmly. She took my order efficiently, and my drink arrived within moments. My meal followed about ten minutes later — nicely presented and every bit as flavorful as it looked.

The shrimp roll was excellent. The mac and cheese struck a perfect balance — rich and creamy without being overly cheesy (something I’ve encountered elsewhere). The green beans were perfectly seasoned, with just the right touch of bacon. Julia checked in often and made sure my sweet tea stayed topped off. The manager, Laura (I believe), was also visible and attentive, stopping by tables to ensure guests were satisfied.

All in all, it was a wonderful dining experience. While a bit on the pricey side, the combination of setting, service, and food quality made it well worth it. I’d gladly return.

First, our server was amazing. She was friendly and attentive. We liked her a lot.

Second, the birds were quite the distraction and nuisance. The owners need to do more to keep the birds away. There was bird feces on several chairs at our table. I’ve eaten at many, many outdoor restaurants, and this was the worst bird take over I’ve ever seen. Our server told us 2 birds got into a fight and one of them killed the other several weeks ago. That’s disgusting. Buy more fake owls and more spikes for the wood under the roof.

Third, the food was okay at best. We waited quite sometime, and the restaurant wasn’t super busy. The worst part was when my son got sick at our hotel later that evening, and we know it was from the food. My husband also felt ill for several hours, but didn’t fall sick, thankfully. The fries and fried fish were some of the greasiest we’ve ever had. Maybe the grease was old and needs to be dumped. Unfortunately, we won’t be back and my son now thinks he can’t ever eat French fries again. 😔

I enjoyed a dinner at The Wharf with my partners family. I shared a pickle chips appetizer and ate the shrimp and grits for me meal. Our server was fantastic! Both attentive and friendly. The food tasted delicious. We were so full that a few of us took home leftovers and also got dessert to go. While we ate inside, the outside had stunning views!

The food was delicious, especially the Shrimp roll. The seasonal Fall Sangria was terrific. The service was great and the staff was very kind and nice to chat with, especially Kennedy and Julia.

We had the fried flounder sandwich and the seafood chowder. The food was wonderful. The flounder was fresh and the chowder had plenty of seafood not just broth. Eating on the water watching the birds made for a relaxing experience! The coconut mojito was also excellent!

Great experience. The food was delicious, but a bit salty. I had the mac & cheese and a side of greens. My husband had the steak, and my father had the shrimp and grits.

Update: Still great! I ordered the corn ribs for the table, and a pimento grilled cheese for my lunch. It was delicious. I love the corn ribs because they are like elote. My grilled cheese was huge and had a ton of pimento cheese in it. I ended up giving half of it to the friend I was eating with because it was so much. Delicious!

The food was excellent. The view was amazing. Eating on the dock is a favorite for me, but a few birds got closer than I'd like, but we did choose to eat where they live. The portions are huge. Could have easily split this salad with another person. We also got the keylime pie, but no pics because I wasnt going to chance a birds getting a bite before I did! And yes, it was the best on the island!

Excited to enjoy the food but due to waiting over 30 minutes at a table with no service and numerous staff members walking by without acknowledgement, I returned my menu to seating staff and spoke with management. Was absolutely no wait and many open tables. Management offer no excuse or opportunity to locate a better seating option. Plenty of other seafood options for dinning on vacation or travel. Zachry's Riverhouse is off the chain. Something work out for a reason.
