Mandatory 18% tip on your check regardless how many people are in your party. It was only my husband and I, ridiculous especially since their electronic payment system doesn't denote this. You must specifically ask for a paper receipt to realize that you are charged this tip - nothing said on the menú, no sign, nothing.

The excuse was that the server depend on the tips and that it is the culture of the US. Understood that serves need tips, but would be nice to know that you are automatically putting 18% on my check before paying.

This seems malicious, as if they hope that you don't ask for a paper check and don't realize that your bill is more expensive than it should be. Just out a sign in the menú or let guests know at the beginning. 18% is a high amount for two people, especially when you have to ask random servers for sauce and your assigned servers doesnt bother to return to check on you.

The food is great, very warm & welcoming, get the arepa with cheese (non sweetened with condensers milk). Highly recommend going, don’t be intimidated just because it’s 99% Colombians, they are super friendly.

To be honest, when this establishment first opened it was fantastic. But as of recently the quality of their food is taken a huge dip in flavor compared to before and this is coming from a born and raised Colombian. Maybe they have new cooks in the kitchen who the hell knows but it’ll be a while before I go here again.
That was strictly only about the food.
The service is always exceptional and the atmosphere is phenomenal. Fix the food and you’ll have a gem of a restaurant.

La Ruana: A Taste of Colombia in Atlanta
Atlanta is gradually becoming a multicultural city, a place many Latinos now call home. La Ruana is a great option to meet the growing demand for Colombian food.
The space is large, and on Fridays and Saturdays, they have live music starting at 9 PM. Their team of servers is very attentive, and the time to serve the food is quick. The Picada La Ruana is perfect for two people. The Coconut and YerbaBuena (Spearmint) lemonades are a delight.
It is definitely a gem you have to visit.
The only thing worth mentioning is that they add an 18% charge as a tip (gratuity) to your bill. However, it's worth it to go, experience the atmosphere, and try their different options.

Foodie here and we often visit different restaurants to try them out. I have to tell you, Ruana Colombian is a MUST!! Their café con leche and the Pan de Bono are out of this world. Ask for Brandon, he was an amazing host. Knowledgeable and super fun. We are definitely coming back.

I’ve been to La Ruana many times, but this was my first time trying the lunch special – Mojarra. For the price, you really can’t beat it. The fish was perfectly crispy, full of flavor, and came with white rice, soup, fried plantain, and a drink — a well-rounded and satisfying meal.

The only hiccup was with the takeout packaging. I ordered three specials, and the soups and drinks came in foam cups with lids that didn’t seal very well. They were placed in a plastic bag without a cup holder, and as you can imagine, things got messy fast. To make it more challenging, I drive a Corolla with small cup holders. Even when I tried to set the cups in them, the lids kept popping off like they didn’t fit. Sure enough, the drinks tipped over almost immediately.

Thankfully, I was still in the parking lot when it happened. The staff kindly gave me another cup and suggested I hold it instead — not the easiest way to drive home, but it worked.

Overall, the food was excellent and worth the trip. I’d just recommend they upgrade the takeout packaging, especially for customers ordering multiple meals. Otherwise, La Ruana continues to be a great spot for authentic, flavorful food.

I can’t say enough about this restaurant. The food was fresh and good quality. The presentation of the food was excellent. I think I found my place in GA. Having been in other Colombian restaurants in NY, LA and Miami, I could honestly say this was one of my top. I don’t want to mention names but the other restaurants that have many all around GA has nothing on this restaurant. Sorry Grandma! And Hernan was a great server. ❤️❤️. Please come and visit this Colombian gem 🇨🇴
