Blows Martin's away (used to)
Edit: 06/14/25 seems to be closed for financial reasons.
I don't know the whole story here but I first came here for the first time in the 80's and this place was fantastic, every time I would come to Rome I would try to stop in here.
Within the past year or so, something severely wrong has happened here, I'm assuming someone else bought it, changed the way things have been done for decades and now this place has literally gone in the gutter, it seems to be permanently closed.

An investment firm called
Three B Investments bought it and ran it in the ground.
Hopefully, someone can breathe new life into this place, it was kind of a staple of Rome.
Short staffed in the mornings. They never have food ready for the early birds. This establishment has declined over the years. It opens at 5am, but the food is never ready.
I went here for breakfast and heard it was a good place to eat. NOT!! My biscuit and gravy was horrible and my hash browns patty was covered in oil. I couldn't eat my hash browns patty and I choked down the biscuit and gravy. Please shut this place down.
Great food!! Fresh and delicious! Reminds me of my childhood breakfasts.

$9 for a dried out bologna.... this place has dropped off bad and if this is the kind of food they are offering now I will not be coming back!
Always heard great things about this place, and its been a staple in Rome for a long time and everyone has seemed to have gone there.
We finally were able to make it there early enough, 9am to be able exact, for our very first trip to the Gravy Boat.
We ordered a country fried steak biscuit, and a bacon egg and cheese biscuit.
The first encounter with the workers was already disappointing, they were rather rude with the way they talked and looked at us. Maybe they were just having a bad day, not sure.
We received the 2 biscuits after 15 minutes of waiting, assuming they had to cook everything fresh to order.
Unfortunately, that was not the case at all.
The biscuits were barely warm, and very dry.
The country fried steak was over-cooked to where the outside that was fried, was mostly black.
The bacon egg and cheese, turned out to be a sausage egg and cheese, and the sausage was dry and stale. The best part was just the egg.
For $15 worth of 2 biscuits and a single cup of gravy (that tasted like water), we threw the majority of all of it away.
I can understand if we had ordered right before they closed, but they dont close until 12 noon, and we arrived at 9am.
New management is needed i think.
First experience will be our last.
What happened to The Gravy Boat?!? It used to be one of my familyâs favorite places. For more than a year, they are routinely out of things. Canât blame this on Covid or tariffs. Someone isnât ordering food. Today (a Saturday) at 8am, there was not one person in parking lot. I was the only car in the drive thru.
1. It took them >30 seconds to respond to the speaker.
2. They were out of cups! What?!?
3. They always charge extra for a credit card. Take cash!
4. I pulled around and saw three people inside. Noone came to the window, so I started reading the handwritten signs on the window. Hereâs one, âWe will not accept your sweaty boob money - Managementâ. Well, ok.
5. I looked inside and saw the team member mash a handful of scrambled eggs on a crumbly flat biscuit. I thought, âOh no! Whose biscuit is that?!?â I looked around for other customers. There werenât any, so I realized THAT was my biscuit.â
6. Still, no one came to the window. They didnât say HEY or ask for my money. I just watched them ignoring me. Kinda felt bad when I drove away because they cut the crumbly biscuit and mashed a handful of eggs, but this situation was not going to get better.
7. Gravy Boat management, you need to pay attention. Thereâs a reason why your once bustling business is now a ghost town.
This place needs to shut down. It's not the gravy boat my family has supported and loved for many years. Biscuits were flat greasy and cold. Paid 15 dollars for 2 Biscuits and 1 drink. I WILL NEVER EAT HERE AGAIN!
used to be a handmade sausage patty now you get 2 frozen pattyâs that are cooked beyond consumption disappointed in how the food has been here since the new owners
Biscuit was cold the steak was small whoever own it now need to close it down the line use to be out in the road now itâs empty.that should tell u something. I want be back

I went here once. It was the worst breakfast Iâve ever had. I went through the drive-through and I had to go around a couple times. I wasnât sure whether something had happened to the workers because nobody ever came out. I even honked. And when I got my food, it was horrible. I shouldâve known.
The food here is delicious! The only place I know of that still serves thick cut bacon. The biscuits are huge, the service is friendly and the prices allow working folks to grab a hot breakfast for less than $5.
Had bought 4 biscuits and every one of them was nasty not sure if itâs an off day but wow were we disappointed
The worst customer service!! The rudest people I have ever ordered with.
I see all the positive reviews and am glad that these patrons were satisfied with their food and service, but there are some of us who are not as satisfied and feel that we were "selective" patrons since we were served half portions of the food we ordered. When you spend your hard earned money for a product which said product was cut in half and served to my wife and I as 2 sandwiches and realize that you didn't receive what you paid for, it kinda leaves a bad taste in your mouth. The first time this happened, we gave them the benefit of the doubt, but it appears that we were pretty much "selected" to receive these portions, so as of this review, my wife and I will never again spend our money where it's not wanted, and to top it off, they can't be reached by phone nor website.
