Only one customer at a time, which is fine. He can run his business anyway he chooses. However, not knowing the rules and staff blocking you and making you feel dumb for walking right in….this isn’t Area 51, just simply say only one customer at a time. Do yourself a favor and go to Wilkes meat market in ball ground or cumming. They have tons of people behind the counter wanting to help the customer feel welcome.
Double the price of most butcher shops. They won’t even let you walk in and look at the meat. Would not recommend.
I have never had such a poor customer experience in my lifetime. When I simply asked Mitch if his assistant could ring me up after waiting 45 minutes to buy a single prepackaged chicken breast, he proceeded to berate me and spew profanities. Yes, Mitch has every right to run his business as he pleases but the way he responded was belligerent at best by any measure . Clearly unstable behavior. He will never see my business again and I hope more people complain if they have a similar experience.
Here to echo everyone else. First time customer. Didn’t follow the “rules”. I was all but pushed out of the store and told I must be new. No welcome. No how may I help you. Just cold, elitist customer service. Don’t even think about trying to browse anything to get an understanding of the store. Trust their cluttered website blindly or expect a bad experience as a walk-in.
I was looking for a pack of crawfish tails. Luckily, I was given a pass since my request was quick and simple. They charged $42 for a pack of USA crawfish tails. You can find the same product at Whole Foods and Walmart for $15. Ridiculous. $30 up-charge for what?
I was excited to discover this place and wanted to shop local, but it’s not worth the hassle and cold customer service. Just go somewhere else.
As a small business owner, I understand that meaningful relationships are paramount, rather than treating someone like a number or one-off transaction. Mitch truly understands this too. When I am meeting with a client, I do not take calls, respond to texts or emails. I focus singularly on my client's needs. With a small shop, Mitch's way of doing this is having one customer come in at a time. As a result, his customers do not feel rushed, and the conversations had are immediately more personal and likely to begin or sustain a long term relationship. For those in a hurry, too busy for that level of personal attention on the day or just needing to be quickly in and out, his process of calling the order in and picking it up at a prescribed time certainly allows for this and meets those customers where they are too.
The product quality is spot on. The service too is personal and spot on. Everything is as it should be. So, slow down that little bit and reap the benefits of Mitch's vast experience and attention to detail. I promise you that "right, not rushed" is more than worth it.
What a neat spot. I met Mitch and Storm today, and I was blown away by the level of service. Firstly, they only allow 1 or 2 customers inside the shop at one time. The foot print is small, so you get the undivided attention of the boss man, Mitch.
You can tell Mitch is a knowledgeable carnivore. I personally think people who are quirky and have special rules around certain activities have something special to offer. This was no exception.
Being my first time to the shop, I didn't realize you could pre-order online. Having said that, I did pick up a couple of 2-inch thick rib eyes, 1lb each. Then I picked up a sliver of Austrailian Wagyu Ribeye to try. He is probably the first butcher to ever say, "hold up, don't buy so much of X", especially for something that is $100/lb. I feel that speaks to his integrity and the way he does business. He clearly takes pride in what he does and provides.
The ribeyes turned out fantastic. Provably the best ribeyes I've ever had, and it's one of his cheaper items. I'll eventually work my way through the rest of his offerings. You need to cook them fast however. I think a couple days in the fridge is probably the limit of time they can sit.
I also picked up a pair of grouper cakes, which by the way, have no flour or filler. Just meat. I haven't tried them yet, but I imagine they'll be amazing.
As you can imagine, with this level of quality and service, the meat won't come cheap. I would say... if you're willing to spend $50+ at a steak house for "questionalble quality", you should consider spending the same amount on quality cuts with a speciality butcher and control the cooking process.
Would recommend, but definitely not for the everyday shopper.
The absolute Worst and most confusing customer service experience on the planet. Better quality meats and especially fish in other local shops in the area.
Used to love Mitches but the one at a time is a real killer. Stopped in as I was in the area. Once person in front of me. Preceded to wait, as I waited 10-15 mins two other people pulled up and said they had pick up orders and I was told I would have to wait for them as well.
Mitches meats are definitely second to none but for the wait and rude staff. Ill take my business else where.
Terrible rude service.Signs, signs everywhere. Do this don't do that. Can't You Read the Signs.
Just had the worst customer service experience I’ve had in a long time at Mitch’s. We were first time shoppers and live in the neighborhood so we thought we would pop in to browse their selection since we’ve heard amazing things. We were greeted by a very unpleasant woman at the door who was extremely rude and turned us away because they weren’t letting browsing customers into the shop at that time. Why have an “Open” sign on the front window if you’re not letting customers in? The women issued no apologies, no helpful knowledge of when to come back or how their shopping experience works. She straight up turned us away from their business and said there was nothing they could do for us as customers. I advise people to take your business elsewhere as these people think they are above you and your business.

Obsessed with the tomato soup. The baked goods are just as tasty. My roll was so soft and full of flavor. I waited by the door as they requested for like 1-2 minutes max. The person that came to the door was kind and attentive. I can’t wait to come back next week and try the turkey leg. As far as the way the establishment is run, it might not be what everyone is used to but it works! They are able to tend to the customers they allow in with their undivided attention. It smells divine in there and I had no issue shopping for an additional item to accompany my soup. My hats off to them for sticking with their principles in spite of serving a very… entitled group of folks.
Great staff, even better meat and greet!
They do not follow their own rules, starting with their hours. I got there 20 minutes before closing time, which is published everywhere as 6PM on Wednesdays. They locked the door and turned off the open sign as soon as they saw me park in front of the store. They have a very heavy set of rules to shop here, but they don't hold their end of the deal.
Follow his instructions and this dude provides an AWESOME product
I've heard that Mitch's offers good quality meat. Unfortunately, he has an unusual way of doing business. He prefers that customers order in advance. He also insists that only one customer be in his shop at a time. Mitch certainly has the right to run his business however he chooses. What does this mean for new customers who might like to see the product before buying? Or for customers who want to know what's available and good right now? I'll often walk into my butcher and buy what really looks good.I encourage you to have a look at his website. He has two pages of instructions for how to be an acceptable customer of Mitch's Meat Market. As I said, it's his decision to make. It's also my decision to go elsewhere.
