We are locals, live about 2 miles away and come here often. Love their happy hour and Nattie Tallboys. Oysters are good in season and fish basket and sandwiches are great. Outdoor seating is good when the weather agrees.

We sat for nearly 2 hours and never received most of our food. The excuse was people were ahead of us and the kitchen is backed up. That is understandable but customers sitting in the restaurant ready to pay and eat should be first priority. Our waitress was amazing though this was not her fault at all, again she was great. Management obviously has zero control over the kitchen and this needs to be addressed.

This is the go to oyster joint in Saint Simons Island Georgia. I’ve lived here a long time, and there’s no better place along George’s coast to eat wonderful oysters, fish, etc. There’s a really cool local vibe at the bar, and they make a really good drink. This is not a place to come whine and complain. It is a place to come and enjoy being local. If you’re not local it’s ok to act that way. Casual.

Vegetarian options: There are several good salad choices.

Parking: Catch 228 is located in a shopping plaza called Red Fern Village. Parking is open and first come first served. One usually can find a space within 20 or 30 yards of the building.

Kid-friendliness: Children and their parents are usually on the restaurant side rather than the bar side. There also is outdoor seating.

The drink prices are a complete mystery. We were there for happy hour and were not told about choices or prices. When we got our bill, we were charged $36 for 6 bottles of beer. We had more than 6. So was it (get 2 free) We were not offered a drink menu so we had no indication of cost. Our waiter was more interested in insignificant chit chat. To Catch 228 credit the food was excellent. Will return but kinda disappointed.

Mixed reviews on the food. Casual place with what looked to be a fair number of locals coming in after we arrived around 545 on a Sunday. They handled small children well and appeared to be dog friendly at the outside seating. Happy hour (till 6) worked to our advantage with buck a shuck oysters (although a little small). Fried oysters were good, the slaw was very good, but the shrimp and grits were soupy and overly salted. The hush puppies had little flavor. The burger was ordinary and light on the cheese. The service was good for us but the place was not busy until we were leaving.

Parking: Village shopping area. Parking was OK for us on a Sunday dinner time, but maybe more of a challenge when more stores are open.

You can get oysters any way you like. And the bloody mary bar is fun.

Shrimp and grits were amazing. Oysters were good too. They did mess up an order in our party though. Service was some of the worst I ever experienced. Took over an hour to get our food, waiter disappeared for 20 minutes on time. Had to get other staff to take care of us. Manager behind the bar was full of excuses and too busy hitting on married woman at the bar.

I can't really judge the food. We waited an hour, paid for our sodas and left. Waitress was nice and apologetic.

The food was good. The servoce was even better. The atmosphere is ok. They could up thier game a bit.
My gripe is the credot card fee listed on the bill. I understand there is a fee to the merchant from the card company but some restaurants do not pass this on. As we are already paying inflated (this is all restaurants) food costs and labor, it feels like just anotther small but cumulative attack on the wallet.
