The food is out of a can or box. The banana pudding is jello with a few banana and wafers out of box. It is cooked southern style. Not worth the time or money.
This was the best food I've had in Georgia! Fun experience eating with strangers. There was a wait but it was so worth it. Recommend to arrive 45 min before opening. Food was fantastic! Everything I imagined southern food to be. All the side dishes were incredible and loved the fried chicken. Staff was very pleasant. Highly recommend!
What a fantastic family style restaurant. If you love Southern cooking at it's best, then you have to eat here. You meet some interesting people Dine on a large number of veggies and meat And all is included, good, drinks, dessert, bread. I will be back there again!!!
This is a must when you visit Savannah. The wait is worth it. The food and service is top notch. All home cooked and the variety that is given to try is wonderful.
The experience was good, the food was yummy. We got there about a half hour before opening. We waited 2 1/2 hours. Although a bucket list thing, standing in line for that long wasn't worth the food. Loved the staff and concept, and the food was very good - the wait time was just too long for what it was.
A true Southern experience! The food and hospitality is fantastic! It's a must when in Savannah. Waiting on line is also part of the experience as you make new friends before getting seated at a table of ten.
After reading other reviews, we knew to get to Mrs. Wilkes's Dining Room early. We arrived at 10 a.m. and were seated at 11:15 am. We were directed to a large table preset with bowls of food and sweet tea. If you wanted something other than sweet tea, such as water or unsweetened tea, it was brought to you The meats and sides vary Monday through Friday. Today, the meat selection was fried chicken, pulled pork, and beef stew. Easily the best-fried chicken I have ever had. The meat in the stew was very tender as was the pulled pork. There is a plethora of sides. Today, it was stuffing, fresh cucumber salad, coleslaw, mashed potatoes, dirty rice, reg. rice, macaroni salad, macaroni and cheese, fried okra, green beans, noodles with English peas, rutabagas, creamed corn, collard greens, snap peas, butter beans, squash casserole, sweet potatoes, potato salad, blackeyed peas, cornbread, biscuits, peach cobbler, and banana pudding. If you wanted more of anything, it was brought out to you. If you want some downhome southern cooking, you need to come here. I can easily say every dish was delicious. Not to be snarky, but if you can't find something you like to eat, that's your problem. Seriously, everything was very tasty. We were well attended to by the servers. Constantly checked to see if we needed any of the amazing dishes. Mrs. Wilkes herself (daughter) came around to make sure we were taken care of. If there is a downfall to Mrs. Wilkes, it is that they only take cash. No credit cards. I am not sure about checks. Their hours are Monday - Friday from 11 -2 p.m. This will be our go-to place anytime we visit Savannah.
We heard from a friend that eating here was a must! We arrived at 12:15 and were seated at 2. They “closed” the outside wait line around 12:30. So we were one of the last people seated that day. Food was plentiful. The fried chicken was so good! Some sides were better than others but there are so many of them to choose from that you will have more than enough to eat. Sweet tea was flowing and the peach cobbler was so yummy! I gave 4 stars due to the long wait in line. We thought it might have been less of a wait if we came before 11 which is when they open but we’re told by management that people start lining up for that first seating at 9. Wow… that is early to start standing in line for lunch! If someone sold water or lemonade outside to people standing I n line they, they could make a fortune!
We got into line at 10:15 am on a Monday and were not seated until 12:00 pm. I had a grumpy, hungry husband on my hands and I was also worrying that the long wait would not be worth it. To my delight, we both agreed it was 100% worth the wait. Upon sitting, the table was already filled with copious dishes and bowls of food. Everything was delicious, especially the fried chicken, cornbread, and pulled pork dish. Service was friendly and attentive, and they quickly brought additional dishes upon request. Dessert was also tasty. We waddled out of the restaurant feeling full and happy.
I wanted to love this place. I let friends talk me into going here. I had read recent reviews and was prepared that I might be disappointed. We just missed the first seating. Ended up waiting about an hour. We were seated at a large table that was already covered in bowls of food. The stew was pretty good and I used the liquid on my mashed potatoes. The rest of the sides were pretty bad. The Mac and cheese sauce was separated or curdled. The chicken and dumplings noodles were very firm. The fried chicken was the standout. it was moist, light and crispy. By far the best thing. Deserts were good. Don't think it's worth the $30 cash only price per person. I'd cut back on the quantity of sides and stick to quality. And don't mess with the chicken, it's otherworldly in its goodness. Serving staff were lovely as is Mrs Wilke's granddaughter.

The food is spot on Southern cooking. The fried chicken was as good as any I have had. And with 25 sides all piled on the table to chose from, no one will go hungry. We waited about an hour to be seated at 12 on a Wednesday- their slowest day.
Good southern family style food with everything you can expect to go with fried chicken. However, plan to wait in line standing outside for quite a while. We visited on a Monday, arrived at noon, and were seated at 1:15pm. You're seated at a table for 10 with others. We enjoyed meeting the people at our table and received tips on must do's in Savannah

What an experience! Be prepared to wait in line. It's worth it for the authentic southern cooking and fanily-style seating.
I had the fried chicken and meatloaf with all the fixins. It was delicious. We all loved the food. It was a great experience. We got to know the folks we ate with. There were only 3 of them and a lot of us, but we are very welcoming and made friends while we ate. It was a great experience.
