Small museum that has nice paintings, an exhibit of Bonadventure with art, and some copies of grand statues. They have a cast of the bird girl and a room of modern art. It doesn't take too long to see everything.
ART IN ALL ITS SPLENDOR ??
BEAUTIFUL
Wonderful place to volunteer. Home of the best resident of Savannah, the Bird Girl.
We didn't plan on going in here as we were more interested in the history of buildings, locations, and homes and this is more just like home that has been converted to an art museum. But we got in free because we had paid for a different Museum and you get to enter three different locations for the price of one. I'm glad we went since it was part of the entire package. But we didn't stay for long. The woman at the gift shop/ front desk was extremely friendly and helpful but the gentleman that was next to her was not friendly at all. Maybe that's just his personality. The art there is absolutely stunning and the back rooms on both levels had me in awe, as did some of the sizes of the art. My favorite part obviously was the statue of the girl from Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil as I have the same miniature reproduction statue in my backyard.
Went to the Tibetan Monk sand art exhibit. Loved both days. Job well done Telfair!!!
Beautiful museum with neoclassical Greek architecture. Amazing collection of paintings and sculpture.
Museum is fairly small and not worth the cost unless you are just going because you got the 3 for 1 ticket from another museum. I couldn't enjoy the impressionist seascapes upstairs because the security guard was eating pretzels in a totally silent room and then took a phone call lol. I just left after that
I love art museums! This one was in such a lovely setting. I was unfamiliar with the artists but felt like the collection was beautifully selected for the many expressions of the people depicted. It was a good balance of landscape and people. I loved the 15 year old boy dressed as a sheik. His expression was all teenager! The two wall length pictures of the cycle of life were amazing as well. Very enjoyable and just enough to hold my interest for the hour we were there.
A dream come true...
Always the art and ambiance of this place.
Restaurantji Recommends
Nice place for paint lovers, not old painters though, mostly last century. Price is for 3 places, the Academy, the center across the street and another house like 10 minutes away with a guided tour
Just like Savannah itself it's not that big but it packs a punch. Beautiful building, the Rotunda room is the highlight with some impressive large works, and the sculpture room has a nice collection with works from several great American artists.
Nice place to visit especially if you like traditional arts
The building is amazing! The art is lovely! The staff was very hospitable! The labels were rather “meh.” Not very informative or engaging! For me, as a savvy museum visitor from Museums Through the Backdoor, I consider good labels part of a good visitor experience.
We did the Women in Art tour with a Girl Scout troop. For some of our girls that are into art it was a good experience but for others it was super boring -- basically this is more of an adult tour that I'd recommend for upper middle or high school with an interest in art. There are some beautiful and impressive pieces! The guide told the girls of a final gallery on the bottom floor as she ended the tour. She did not warn the adults that there were several life-sized nude male sculptures in that room. They obviously skip this room on the tour and a heads-up would have been nice.
