We booked a tour in advance for our girl scout troop and I had heard from many other troops that they are disorganized and often cancel people last minute. I intetionally out this at the end of one day in case this happened. Glad I did because we did get cancelled day of. The staff is very kind and maybe the tour is cool but it really would not be much effort for one person to be in charge of tour scheduling. All it would take is a shared Google Calendar or one that only one person uses. I still gave three stars because if you do the tour, it is the only place that doesn't try to take advantage of all the GS business and charges very reasonable prices to GS. I would say they hardly make a profit on those GS tours specifically at all and that's very kind.
The only thing that kept this from being 5 stars was the staff. I stopped in two times and both time it seems I was bothering them to get me items from the cases. I spent a lot of money and I felt like I was a bother. The second visit the person who waited on me was the manager and he barely spoke to me. Besides that, the pralines and gophers were divine! I also bought taffy for family back home and a caramel apple to enjoy when I get home!
Outstanding candy store with taffy, fresh pralines, gelato, turtles, creams and some penny candy. The give free samples of the most deliscious pralines that one can never forget. A must see.
The staff are very nice and services is good. While it is always charming to be on vacation in a candy store, it is not a strong value. When my total for a single dark chocolate turtle (caramel and pecan with chocolate cover over top) and buckeye (peanut butter ball dipped in chocolate) is over $10, that is not cheap, that is expensive. When it is not "the be all end all" for that price and I bought only 2 handmade specialty items, then it is overrated. It is a good place to go with little kids to let them pick out 1-2 pieces of hard candy that will cost you less than $1 and make them feel like they have been to paradise and chosen what they wanted the most.
It was good. Dare I say above average. If I wasn't from New Orleans, I would see what the hype was about. However it wasn't creamy enough. When you ate it, it didn't dissolve well and was gritty. Also it didn't taste like anything besides sugar. Not enough caramel notes or pecan flavor.
A friend told me I had to try the pralines when I told her I was planning a trip to Savannah. I wasn't sure I would like it but then I never had it before so how can I dislike something I haven't tried, right? At least, that's what my parents say. Thankfully, Savannah Candy Kitchen offered free samples. My friend was right! The moment I had a taste, I was hooked. Savannah Candy Kitchen had a deal where you bought a pound of pralines, you got a 1/2 pound free. Obviously, I had to take advantage of that. The staff was helpful and polite. Oh, right! There is a lot of candy and sweets here. It smells incredible. There's an old timey feel and to the place. Pretty much anyone can find something to their liking here.
I’ve been here for their outstanding fudge and pralines in the past, but this time I had a late night visit with a craving for ice cream or gelato. I ordered a double scoop cone of gelato and it was outstanding! Real flavor and creaminess and it sure hit the spot on a hot summer night. It is a little pricey which is par for the area. Open late, till 11 pm, even during the week which is rare for this area.
When we entered, my husband needed to find a bathroom fast as there aren't a lot of public bathrooms readily available. We asked the male clerk and he gave us a deer-in-the-headlights look. You work here, shouldn't you know where the bathrooms are in the city market? We bought some saltwater taffy and peanut butter fudge. For a company that advertises as much as this place does, we were expecting really good candy. The taffy about broke my teeth off and has very little flavor. I can't really tell one flavor from the next. The peanut butter fudge, was super expensive and had little flavor as well. I can make peanut butter fudge more tasty than this. SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!! This is overpriced stuff trying to imitate real candy. You will be disappointed.
I get it, its a tourist trap..but $10 for 2 pralines smaller than the palm of your hand is RIDICULOUS...and the pralines were no better than the ones my mom makes every year at Christmas. I wish I would have gotten one of their overpriced apples instead.
We entered and were immediately offered a chocolate praline sample. Later in the visit we were watching the taffy machine do its thing and the candymaker tossed taffy to us! Huge selection of regional sweets, fudge, popcorn, pralines. Great place!

It's hard to go wrong with chocolate. A lot of their products are just machine made and mass produced candies. The chocolate goods are decent. Not sure how much is truly made on site. The staff could use some work. Seems to mostly be disinterested teenage boys and girls.
I ordered a German chocolate cake for my daughters birthday. I was very explicit about the date I needed that cake. At 5 pm on the day of her birthday the cake had not arrived. I called savannah and they were completely disinterested. I ran out an bought a last minute cake. The cake arrived 3 days late and was stale. I called again, and again they did not care. They said I could mail it back. There was no way we were driving to a post office during COVID and a week before Christmas. Again, they didn’t care. I suggest never using this company. They don’t care about people.
We didn’t even really plan on going into any candy stores but had some spare time while waiting for a restaurant to open and dropped in. They caught me with a free sample of the pralines as I was heading out the door empty handed and I ended up falling in love. They are delicious!! (And I don’t usually like anything with nuts). They do a free half pound with the purchase of a pound so of course we ended up getting some. I was excited to find a location closer to home in Charleston and we ended up getting more there when we visited. Don’t pass it up and definitely give the pralines a try!
Years whom we loved the candy kitchen. The quality seems to be lacking now. We visited both locations. City Market and River Street. Both we of the same quality. The praline samp,e's at both locations were grainy. We each bought gophers. The caramel was runny and very very sweet. It lacked much caramel flavor. The chocolate on top was very thick and hard to bite through and tasted of a lower quality chocolate.
First off, anyone who didn’t give this place 5 stars is either a crackhead, or a Kale smoothie sipping personal trainer hippie. Best. Candy. Store. Ever. Think I’m lying? Pop a white chocolate gopher in your mouth and get back to me. If it doesn’t change your life, you have no soul. The caramel apples are nearly the size of a basketball. I’m seriously debating hanging out in the alley until they throw away the old stuff. I have no shame in admitting, I would absolutely dumpster dive for this candy.
