Good for quick and easy on Wilmington for a sit down Asian restaurant.
I like the spicy miso, and my wife gets the yakisoba.
The pork belly in the ramen is usually over cooked an flavorless, the whole dish relies on the miso. If the proteins were prepared better then it would be a better ramen. Also instead of tea eggs in the ramen it’s just a regular hardboiled egg.
My wife’s yakisoba has a good base flavor and veggies but the proteins are often dry and over cooked and often bland.
They used to have good crab Rangoon but have switched to a cheaper option.
The sushi roll are hit and miss
The Thai tea is good.
Service has always been good and we always have a clean table
It’s good for convenience and portions, but they could really benefit from improving there proteins, and authenticity.

Is Japanese restaurant is one of two of my husband's and my favorite places to eat on WIlmington Island. The food is always delicious and fresh in the service is awesome! We've been coming here since the place open about 20 years ago.

I loveeee this place! The food is always AMAZING, the staff is AMAZING! Miranda is the absolute best! She makes our day when we come in and the overall service is hard to beat! If there are ever issues with orders they are happy to fix, but that never happens. We never leave unsatisfied in all aspects. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone!

We have eaten at Kanpai 1 twice before and it was very good. However, last night our 4 dinners were extremely subpar. There was a concern with one of the soups, all 4 salads consisted of big chunks of the base stem of the Iceberg lettuce, two orders of steak was way overcooked and tasteless, as well as the dinner order of salmon. We should have voiced these concerns to our very kind and proficient young server, but instead ended up just leaving most of the meals at the table after paying the bill. Hopefully, this was just an off night for them. We will try again later.

The Chef's Specials today, 12/3/24 of Tuna & Salmon Ceviche (with jalapeños) and the Peppercorn Tuna were PHENOMENAL!!! Unmatched freshness and flavor!!!!

Okay, one of those restaurant makeover shows would have a FIELD DAY with this one:
1) tv over the bar was dead and had a layer of grease coating every inch, ceiling tiles broken and disgusting, specials menus looked 10+ years old & warped
2) kitchen looked dark with missing light bulbs - not ideal for food prep
3) my son and i both had gastro intestinal discomfort afterwards
4) we waited over 6 minutes for a simple greeting from an awkward mumbling teenager, only to be rescued by a kind Japanese waitress, our family was overlooked on purpose
5) we were offered "shrimp sauce" 5 times which locals seem to favor these massive bottles of refrigerated mayonnaise to slather on their bland food
6) mushroom "soup" was water, lacking mushrooms, no joke
7) both of our children hated their food finding it bland
8) yakisoba tasted like an abundance of soy sauce, waaay too salty
9) wife's curry entrée looked like green mucous lacking "vegetables" that were listed as ingredients
10) we only went here because Super Taste was closed
11) nothing has changed in 10 years
