Drinks were great, appetizers were great, mains were a let down. The ‘smoked pork’ seemed more like something out of a crock pot than a smoker. Zero bark, lacks any authenticity.
We arrived for brunch as the doors opened and the over attentive wait staff may be a nice change from other places where you are forgotten, but for the prices Common charges I’d expect more sophistication, where the staff just blend in and ask if you want to hear before eagerly practicing the specials on the early birds lol - but honestly we were a group of friends who hadn’t seen each other in years and wanted to catch up without the staff being the center of attention. In short, a bit too much flair for us, more suited for Chilis and TGIF than what we expected from a place everyone raved about.

Watch out! we took what the waitress recommended for the dinner specials, pork chop and winter chowder, we are pretty sure the prices were $18 for the pork chop and $16 for winter chowder as the waitress told us. When we see the bill, the pork chop was $52. We asked the waitress, she told us the price is correct, $52. This seems to be an obvious scam. We will not recommend this restaurant and we will not come back again. Updated on 12/22/2024: My comment was characterized as “strong untrue accusation”, the fact is, the waitress told us the pork chop was $18 and later we were charged $52. To be honest, I would never have agreed to pay $52 for a pork chop. I challenge you to put this on your menu, if you think you could sell this pork chop with this pricing.

Our Chef testing at the Common Restaurant was nothing short of spectacular! We were seated and presented with an anniversary card and complimentary Common logo pins. At the end of the meal we were given cute little boxes of ginger tea with the cutest little ginger bread cookies. Our meal started off with grilled bread and compound butter, appetizers were smoked oysters Rockefeller and mushroom bruschetta, we cleansed our pallets with a raspberry rhubarb, it was quit tart, and did the job. Out entrees were Grilled ribeye, southern smashed potatoes topped with mushroom gravy, served with baby broccoli, & smoked beef au jus and Shrimp and grits. Now, if you follow me, you know I’m very picky about my shrimp and grits and it’s very hard to find great shrimp and grits around here. We’ve only found one place who had outstanding shrimp and grits and that was a bbq place in Florida, FLORIDA you guys? I don’t even try to order them anymore cause it’s always a let down. However, I gave them a shot and OMG!!! y’all know I can get emotional over anything and the first bite brought a tear to my eye. I could hear the angels singing, hallelujah!! The flavor combination of these grits. The smoked Gouda just gave it the chef’s kiss. This is now, my new favorite place. I will be back, often. Our deserts were a hazelnut tart and espresso mousse with biscotti. The espresso mousse stole the show with deserts. This place should definitely be on your list to check out. Amazing food and lovely staff! We spent our first night in Savannah at Common Restaurant and loved every bit of it. The vibe is very cosy and our great waitress took us through the full menu. We ended up with a tasting menu which was absolutely perfect. Great night!

Had the pleasure of enjoying a great Sunday meal or should I say snack? I enjoyed the shrimp and grits which were super delicious but for $23 the portion size could’ve been larger. My husband enjoyed the $.75 oysters and the cocktails were great. We definitely recommend for a date night! Highly suggest bigger portions.

By the time they sat the group upstairs and came back I’d been there a few minutes longer. Our table was still available but we couldn’t have it. They told me “you’d be surprised, 3 minutes really makes a difference when they have reservations later in the night.” 3 minutes!!!! This place has become so full of themselves after “re-branding” with their new chef over the last year. You’d forget you’re in the South because they have no southern hospitality whatsoever.

Common was by far my favorite restaurant visited in Savannah! We had chicken and waffles and the fried chicken sandwich. Both were amazing. The service was so friendly, just incredible. They even surprised us changing the sign to celebrate our anniversary! I had bottomless mimosas but my husband ordered the bloody Mary and it was the best I've ever tasted! I also thought the pickles were the best I've ever had and they brought me more when I told a server. Cannot say enough positive things about Common!
