This is the kind of fun dining a traveler could hope for. Stopped in for an evening dinner. The place was packed. Got a seat at the bar and the wonderful bartender soon took my order and since I do not drink fixed me up with a refreshing glass of water. I ordered the Cajun tortellini with shrimp and scallops. While waiting found the people around the bar to be very friendly and talkative. The atmosphere was great! Soon my meal arrived, the food was hot, seasoned perfectly (normally restaurants believe Cajun means more heat than flavor, not the case here). The food was delicious. I witnessed everyone enjoying themselves with the food and conversations. The bartender was very friendly, made you feel at home, and was very efficient taking orders (both food and drnks), mixing drinks, bringing your food to you, simply did an outstanding job. I could not have enjoyed my dining experience more. I highly recommend this place.

Historic place right on the river, with classic food items. They have a few outdoor tables if you want to enjoy all of the things going on or have a dog.

I absolutely loved the food here. I ordered the snow crab and crab soup. The soup was spicy and robust with flavor. You must try the potato salad side item. The potato salad was the best I've ever had and I'm super picky bc I thought my mama made the best. ?

If you're in Savannah and looking for a cozy place to eat great food....
Then you have to try out Cotton Exchange Tavern! The Cowboy Reuben and Crab Cake Sandwich were incredible. The fried calamari appetizer was good but had a bunch of just fried crispies from the bottom of the barrel. Tasted good, but would not say it's a must-have like the sandwiches. The fried grouper fingers were also tried at our table and pretty tasty. Warm atmosphere in a cozy, underground feeling tavern. We had a couple of drinks which were good, but nothing crazy to write home about. Overall, I definitely would say this is the top pick when exploring River Street and looking for a mid-price ranged place to eat with a wide variety menu. Would definitely come back.

Got right in without a wait - nice roomy booths; interior felt a bit like stepping back in time rustic and vintage but clean! Shared a prime rib dip, battered fries - both hit the spot and the au jus was just perfect. Ordered a cup of clam chowda and it too hit the spot! Would come here for lunch if I’m in Savannah again.

We visited on 9/29/24, we sat at the bar which is where we generally like to sit in restaurants. The bartender greeted us by stating they “are out of a lot of beers”. She sat menus in front of us and then completely ignored us. We waited for her to look our direction or even offer to grab us some waters as we were deciding what to drink. Nothing. Needless to say we waited long enough, she didn’t look our way, we walked out.
Very poor customer service. We were disappointed as we were excited to try this place. But when a city has such great other options, this is not a place we would try again.

It was our first time visiting Savannah and people, posts, tour guides, books, etc. all recommended the Cotton Exchange. I don't really understand the hype. Our food came out cold and everything seemed to be frozen and heated in a microwave. We had the crab soup (cold and bland), Reuben sandwich (fine), fried shrimp (only 5 shrimp and flavorless), and potato salad (fine). It just was all bland and cold.
