Hadn't been to The Grey in awhile as we had felt like it had lost its way a bit in the last year or so. But we decided to give it another try and so happy that The Grey is back and in top form. Had dinner there this week and the service by Joel and others was top notch and the food was creative and delicious. Started with the hoe cakes and caviar - simple but so tasty. Tried the pot licker scallops which were just great, the fried squash which had a delicious habanero...
Wonderful service and ambiance. I thought the food was incredibly pedestrian, however. Salt forward without any other flavor components. Biscuits had a bread like composition and weren’t flaky, were served cold and with cold butter. Not sure how they failed to anticipate impeding the spread.
We finally got a table on our 4th visit to Savannah in 2 years. It’s now my favorite spot — the beautiful Art Deco restoration of a blacks-only bus terminal, the creative and well executed food, and the opinionated artistic touches.
