We happen to come across The Smoking Egg while down Chatham Pkwy doing some floor shopping. Establishment was very clean, service was too notch, and food to include mimosas were beyond delicious. The wife got the smash burger and fries. Both were seasoned well and cooked to perfection. I got the Ox Tail, Collard Greens, and Mac n Cheese. Let me tell you, run don’t walk to order this! It was so good! We definitely return as I’m eyeing the crawfish.

The moment I tasted my black coffee, I knew I was in for something special. Even before my food arrived, I was already reaching for my phone, anticipating the perfect shot. I ordered the shrimp and grits with a side of pancakes—and every bite exceeded my expectations. The service was just as impressive as the food: warm, attentive, and genuinely kind. The atmosphere added to the experience, filled with laughter and a joyful buzz that made everything taste even better.

Traveled from NC to visit family in Savannah, and this was our second stop off the train—thanks to a quick Google search. Let me just say… what a find! Not only was the food absolutely delicious (I had the fried whiting, grits, and eggs), but the service and vibe were on point. They played 90s R&B—my favorite—and I almost couldn’t eat from singing along. They offered 3 types of toast, 3 kinds of hot sauce, and the pancakes were cooked to perfection with crispy edges. Everything was made with care, flavor, and that Southern brunch magic. This spot is a whole vibe. Will definitely be back next time I’m in town and have recommended it to my SAV family!

Upon arrival, we were seated immediately. We debated whether we wanted to stay because it was a new place, and the prices weren't as cheap as another spot we knew that had great food. The waiter came over to take our drink orders, but we were still debating, so we asked him to come back. Subtly foreshadowing: we made the wrong choice.

I originally came in wanting breakfast, but the options were slim, so we ordered the beignets as an appetizer. The insides weren’t cooked properly. I ate the outsides and rolled the leftover dough into balls so they would be aware. We also ordered oxtails and seared Atlantic salmon. For the price, I thought the $22 for the oxtails was okay, considering it came with sides (collard greens and yams). However, there were only two oxtails. At first, I thought it was just oxtails with no sides, which led me to change the sides for the salmon. Instead of eggs and grits, I chose collard greens and yams, unaware that we would end up with two sides of the same things. I also ordered a side of grits.

When the food came, the oxtails were served with two pieces of cornbread. After tasting the cornbread, I was hesitant to try anything else. My boyfriend immediately said we should’ve gone somewhere else without tasting the rest. The grits were good—thick, creamy, and hot. The yams, however, were absolutely disgusting. The "syrup" tasted like they had put vanilla extract on top. I can’t even say they were canned, because canned yams are softer, and these were firm. The collard greens were plain, which I could have dealt with, but by the time the waiter came back, I was so aggravated that I didn’t even want to ask for hot sauce.

The salmon was definitely spoiled. I begged my boyfriend not to eat it, but he wanted to “get our money’s worth” . I cook salmon way too often, so I know. It wasn’t the seasoning; it was rotten, for sure. The oxtails with rice and gravy were the only thing worth eating—too bad it wasn’t enough. The cook must’ve seen our faces, because he came over to ask how everything was. I begged my boyfriend to be nice before they asked. He’s from Florida, so he’s very blunt. In a joking manner, he told the cook it was disgusting. The cook laughed and said, "You ate it all up," and that was the end of that encounter.

Once we finished, the only thing eaten from the salmon plate was the salmon itself (unwillingly so he wouldn’t feel wasteful.) I left the greens and yams. My boyfriend And I ate the oxtails and rice, but left the yams and a slice of cornbread. The waiter asked how everything was, and I told him it wasn’t good. He said he hoped I’d enjoy it the next time I came back. We will not be back. Lesson learned: read reviews before coming.

The food is quite tasty. The hostess was warm. My server however waz not attentive. Not only did it take over 10 minutes for her to acknowledge me but she did the same to the table next to me. Service starts with attentiveness. I am glad I came alone, I would have been ashamed to bring others.

We were passing through and stopped in for coffee and breakfast. We'd been in town for a few days and we got the best cup of coffee here. The food was really great too! Our server was very sweet and attentive. I wish I could remember her name. Overall a very good experience.

Great meal. My bill was less than $20.00 so I left my server her tip at the table. I went to pay my bill with a twenty and the cashier asked if I wanted my change. Hmm.. ..
