Wife and I stopped in to. 401 West restaurant for dinner on our way beck home from JAX airport. Reading on line we learned this restaurant features local fare in its culinary and beer offerings. The entrance is upstairs and the outside deck seating overlooking the river was very nice. The service was a bit stretched, however the food was very good. The warm fish dip and bread appetizer was superb as were the flounder with corn salsa over grits, and the 401 burger. The place was surprisingly empty for a Friday night and we left not knowing what the marketing theme of the restaurant was as it felt a bit eclectic. The decor, music, craft beer, menu, prices, ambiance didn't seem to to be in sync however with that said, my wife and I agreed to return because the food was outstanding.

The staff was friendly and the food (shrimp & grits / seafood pasta) was delicious. We ate our meal on the outside patio and the scenery was beautiful. I would definitely recommend.

Prior to our Anniversary trip to St Marys, we asked for suggestions for the best place for an anniversary dinner. 401 West was highly recommended by many people. We got all dressed up, drove over there, but we couldn't even get into the restaurant. It's a 2nd floor restaurant and the only way up was a steep flight of stairs. They have an elevator, but it was out of order. We had to leave and eat somewhere else.

Stevie was amazing and the food we just as amazing. We had the seafood pasta, Sym bowl, blueberry rum punch, and Butterfinger cheesecake. Delicious and beautiful view.

The food & drinks are ah-mazing! I give it 4 1/2 stars but rounded up to 5. We came for dinner and returned for brunch. I love a good brunch and they didn't disappoint me. I'll say I definitely preferred their brunch menu. Brunch portions are large and you get your money's worth. However, their dinner portions are small for the price but still tasty. They have a full bar and their staff are skilled bartenders who make excellent drinks at dinner and brunch! I'd say it's the best restaurant we found in St. Mary's. We love the outdoor seating overlooking the marsh. Spectacular views and ambience! We will be returning.

Great service and the food was absolutely delicious. We sat outside overlooking the marsh, it was the perfect brunch setting on a beautiful day.

Excellent service and hands down one of the best restaurants in St Marys. You won’t be disappointed by anything on the menu and the view is amazing.

DEFINITELY have "Bug Spray" readily available if you choose to eat outside (1720-UTC), NOT many indoor tables, so just know you will wait. "GNATS" are horrible, scenery is great though. (pics off balcony)

401 is in a new building that would have outstanding sunset views (we arrived after sunset.). The menu is not extensive but has several selections in whatever one might want. The entrees were creative and well prepared. Service was good and the beer selection was broad enough to satisfy most anyone. There are not many options in St. Marys and this is the best, but the rating would stand no matter the competition.

I had the opportunity to dine at 401 West in St. Marys, GA TWICE last weekend on the Georgia coast. Recommend by a local innkeeper a year or so ago (I visit St. Marys/Cumberland Island 2x/year), I finally was able to fit it into my plans. It goes without saying that their location is off the charts! Marsh grasses, a cool breeze, and the salty sea air combine to enhance your dining experience. So let's talk about the SUNSETS! You just cannot stop taking photos (see mine!). The first night I enjoyed my meal with yummy bread and seafood pasta. Oh, to start, I also had a roasted beet, goat cheese, spiced pecans and arugula salad ($10) which was really good. I shared the bread basket ($4) with my friend, which included creamy butter and what I think was some kind of peach chutney. They make their own pasta, which is a plus. It was an ample portion for me. Fettucini noodles with a light parmesan cream sauce over scallops and shrimp ($27). Delish! I returned two nights later with a larger group. My starter this time was the onion soup ($8) which was very good (in all honesty, it could have been a bit hotter but I like my soup steaming! It did not stop me from scraping the bottom of the bowl, though!). And yes, I did a repeat of the seafood pasta which tasted even better than two nights prior. Our server, Stevie, did a great job handling a hungry gaggle of gal-pals who arrived ravenous right off the Cumberland Island ferry, complete with some high-maintenance demands! (Tip your servers well...the past 2 years have been tough for the industry!) Both times, we sat on the covered deck overlooking the marsh and St. Marys River. It was delightful both times and I will definitely return next time I'm in town. There is also an inside bar and dining room which looked lovely, and had beautiful artwork on the walls. Ladies' room was clean. Restaurant is very walkable from the center of St. Marys waterfront. All in all, it was a wonderful customer experience! I highly recommend it.

Family group went there during a reunion and ate inside. Little atmosphere, VERY limited menu, small portions, over-priced. Our group got a variety of dishes and no one was overly impressed. Two people in group ordered nothing because of lack of variety. I got a salad with chicken added which was good and fresh. Wait staff attentive. Gorgeous view from top deck but not open as too cold that night (Feb). Afterward several locals agreed with our disappointment saying they never eat there even though they know the owners! We won't be back.

Great views with delicious southern cuisine. Fun place to bring the family with yard games if you have to wait, but worth the wait. Great cocktails to also to be social. Add to you list when in the area, we plan to go back on our next visit down to St Mary.

The best thing was the view. Food was just okay. I had shrimp and grits which was not very flavorful. Husband had the Sym bowl which he said was ok too. Again, not much flavor to it. I asked for their winter cosmo but server said didn't have ingredients. Couldn't even get a regular cosmo so settled for wine. The sunset was beautiful that evening. We ate on the outdoor patio. It was chilly but worth the view. Our server was very friendly. Would go back just for the view and when they have music in warmer weather. Maybe try brunch.

It was ok. The French onion soup had melted cheese sunk to the bottom, so someone needs to explain gratinee to them. Sandwich was good but drinks must have been watered-down. I checked my bac after 2 martinis and it was like 2 glasses of wine at .03! Overpriced in general so I would skip it and go somewhere else.

Good resturant overall. Not too many options for dinner but they have all been good. Recommend the Steak and Fries.
