Vegetarians: THE BEANS ARE NOT VEG, They contain lard. I asked twice. The menu states vegetarian and they are not vegetarian. Just beware. Place was clean and busy. Awkward seating for me. Waitress so nice but minimal English. Authentic sure, but why lie on the menu. Always double check. I had the street corn and it was excellent, the Mexican guacamole, it was good and fresh. Parking lot smaller than expected. Oh and the margarita was a pitcher for 5.99 so it was crazy big. They let me take a to go cup, which was nice. No way I could finish that. 5 stars for carnivores.

We are just passing by on our way home to Tennessee and our wonderful hotel front desk lady Jasmine said El Metate was great, came in with a new party of 9. They were packed and busy. Food was amazing. Some of the best birria tacos I’ve had! So fresh! Margaritas were strong and so good! We got to enjoy an amazing meal & great live music from Randy Wiley Music!
No matter the occasion, this is a great meal. Definitely would rank this in the top of my list for favorite Mexican restaurants. If you’re looking for a good & delicious but very fast meal…this is your go to!

Fajita steak was overcooked by at least 2-3mins. Waiter apparently forgot to turn our order in as we watched table after table that came in after us get their food, eat, and leave by the time we got our food.

I've found about 6 Mexican restaurants in the area. There are more highly advertised ones in the area. If you like good food, this is the place! Their food is more authentic, better priced, better quality, and what you're looking for. And if you like beer, and I know do, they have $10 towers on Sunday.

We stopped in and ate on our way through town. We were so excited based on the reviews. But this was a huge disappointment.
Reply to owner: none of the things I gave this review about has anything to do with the hurricane. Don’t use that as an excuse for poor restaurant conditions. No soap in the bathroom, urine all over the floors of the bathroom, food was overcooked and overpriced, service was minimal despite the restaurant being at less than 50% capacity with 4 servers.

Fast service of food and drinks, however I had to wait for a while to receive my check. I had to flag staff down and ask for check. I had the fajita salad and it was freshly made, bowl was crisp and it was tasty.
