⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5 stars) Tamez BBQ on Hog Mountain Rd is one of those places that punches way above its weight.
The menu is a really cool mix of true Texas-style barbecue and Tex-Mex, and it works. The brisket is the star—super tender, juicy, and packed with flavor. Easily some of the best around. The pulled pork and ribs are solid, but if it’s your first time, go brisket.
What really separates them is the breakfast side of the menu. The brisket burrito and breakfast tacos are legit—fresh, made-to-order, and loaded with flavor (chorizo, egg, potato, all done right). It’s not your typical BBQ joint menu, and that’s a good thing.
For lunch, the plates come the way they should—meat, sides, sauces, pickles—and the cowboy beans, greens, and potato salad round it out well.
You can tell everything is made with intention, not just thrown together. It’s casual, no-frills, but the food absolutely delivers.
If you’re anywhere near Watkinsville, this place should be in your regular rotation.

Brisket was okay, the potato salad was terrible (raw potatoes/bland), and the sauces were very watery and had a heavy vinegar taste.

I love this place, its good to have an actually good bbq right here in oconee. The people who run it are super nice and patient!! Brisket is for sure the way to go, everything else is good, but good god that brisket is good, and theyre nice and let me get leaner brisket cuz im not a big fat on brisket kinda guy. I come here all the time and its always been good and keeps getting better. Also get the lemonade, so good. Love you guys!!

Our new favorite spot. This is homestyle goodness. All around a 10.
Looks nice and place is clean, but the food was bad. All of the sides were got were bland. Potatoes in the potato salad were still slightly raw. Mac and cheese tasted like watery generic brand box mac. Meat seems fine. Hot sauces are good. I was looking forward to having a nicer dine in area compared to the other location. What a shame.

Easy walk in and order food with delicious choices and really good food. My husband loves the burnt ends as they were flavorful and tender. I loved the tacos and would eat them everyday. The family atmosphere is wonderful. Don’t miss out!!!
