I don't leave reviews often, but decided to leave one for Rooster Farms Coffee after reading all the one-star reviews. First and most important, the Kona coffee is really great and much much cheaper compared to Kona coffee sold by most retailers. We had a hard time finding the place because GPS took us to a wrong road. The owner was very responsive on the phone. This is not a fancy/cozy cafe if that's what you are looking for. But the coffee is definitely worth the drive. I bought three bags for myself and ordered a monthly subscription for my boyfriend living on mainland. It's the best Kona coffee I have so far

We came to rooster farms based on a recommendation, not sure what to expect. We were hoping for a unique experience off the beaten path, and that was exactly what we found. Amazing. We didn’t know you had to reserve a tour, but Ed and his wife were very accommodating and Ed gave us an impromptu free coffee tasting. This is a 6 acre family run coffee farm. Ed gave us each a sample of their coffee, and it was delicious. We bought a bag of fresh whole bean from Rooster Farms when we were done. Ed shared facts about the coffee in the area while brewing the fresh cup of coffee. Our family made a memory here and would highly recommend to others. Don’t let the road deter you! It’s one way and says private property all the way up, but we made it up just fine. It would definitely be a good idea to make reservations to guarantee your coffee tasting/tour.

Been on the islands for the past 2 weeks and this is by far the best coffee I've had on both Maui and Big Island combined. Ed is chill. Be sure to stop by and support an awesome local producer!

As we pulled up a windy unforgiving road, unannounced, we approached a man weed whacking an area around the coffee farm. He signaled us down and said “do you have a reservation or just coming for some coffee?” His reply said it all. “No worries! Pull in over there and I’ll be happy to make you guys some coffee.” The man we would come to know as Ed is the most passionate coffee grower we’d meet among our 4 coffee farm stops. Ed & his wife who own Rooster Farms stumbled into coffee making from New Jersey and we’re thankful that they did. He took the time to pour us the best coffee we’ve ever had (Kona or not). He answered all of our coffee questions and explained all of his coffee knowledge including the most important “friends don’t let friends buy coffee farms”. This is an extremely labor intensive career to which Ed meets with steadfast passion. We took home 6 bags of Rooster Farms coffee because we just couldn’t have enough of it. The dark roast made for the best espresso I’ve ever made at home. Roosters Farm is an absolute MUST visit in Kona (just make sure you’re kinder than us to make a reservation).

We loved this coffee farm. Great local experience, hard to get to, but definitely worth the trek. Ed and his family were wonderful and coffee was delicious.

They’re so friendly and the coffee is incredible!

The most important thing: the coffee was delicious, and I would always rather put money into the farmer's account than a store or larger company. The still important but less-so thing: it *is* challenging to get up that hill! Prepare for a trek up narrow, winding terrain that could be muddy if there's been recent rain. It's a dirt road, not mountaineering. But it's rough, and maneuvering our rental Cherokee up the hill was exciting.

To address some of the negative reviews. As they noted, this is not a cafe/storefront -- it's a working family farm, and visitors/guests are coming into working and living space, not a corporate tasting room. If clutter bothers you, maybe don't visit farms. I was hoping for more tour than tasting, but I understand rules have changed around farm tours, and that's ok. It was so great to meet and talk to a coffee farmer, to learn about many of the things that go into Kona coffee (including economics, labor, and constant weed-whacking!). And the coffee is fantastic - we bought three bags to take home!

Best coffee in the States! I firstly had peaberry from Rooster farm 4 years ago and subscribed their coffee since then. Tara, owner of the farm is one of the coolest guy I've ever met.

Cool, small coffee operation. The owner was great, learned a lot about small scale coffee growing. Enjoyed a couple of pour over samples and bought some whole beans to take home.

super cute coffee farm - local ! Informed and helpful tour guide and delicious coffee samples, we also got to look at the turmeric plants in addition to coffee plants.

Remote location but delicious organic coffee that is worth the drive. Ed is very knowledgeable grower and roaster. Coffee aficionados will enjoy this authentic Kona experience (and the gourmet coffee).
