Down to Earth Organic & Natural - Kahului

My favourite place on the island to eat, worth every penny. I daydream about it. Hot food bar with tons of vegan options (there is no meat in the store at all, it’s a vegetarian grocery story with hot food bar by weight, and a bistro with food and smoothies). The salad bar is unreal. I love the late hours. I also always hit it on the way to the airport. I wish this was my business and I’d love to meet the brains behind this operation, just so cool. Really really dig this store. It's like a smaller sprouts or whole foods with hot items available.

A little over priced on some items but I did like the freshness of everything there especially the dragon fruit.

Lots of options for organic, and vegan foods. Groceries vitamins. Excellent place.

It's a very good alternative to the mainstream grocery stores and meetless. Overpriced, of course, but I trust them that there food is organic and uncompromising. The dely is well assembled and tasty.

Amazing grocery store and hot bar! I have never seen an entire vegetarian store!! As a pure vegetarian person since childhood, I was so happy to see evrything in the hot bar was vegetarian with no eggs too. Didnt have to check any ingredients while buying.. Great to see that owners kept it like this, good job! 🙌

Great food options for vegetarian including fresh juice and smoothies- all healthy

One of the biggest rip offs on Maui. Prices are so ridiculous. Something that cost $10 normally, will cost you $40 here. Its very insulting.
I can't see why anyone would shop here when Amazon is available.

This is low key one of the best places on the island to get vegan food. The enchiladas are actually spicy and taste incredible.

In this store in not about the money - is about ethical honesty good vibes and healthy food
And that’s is way more of what a grocery shop typically offers … and that’s is why I come here often
And do this since this was a little store in Wailuku … I think was them… gosh so many years have passed

Decent selection of island grown fruits and vegetables. I stop here and buy as much as I can from my list before heading to Costco or Whole Foods for what they are missing.

AMAZING tea selection.

Loved the items in Hot bar here. Savior for vegetarian folks in this area. The on-demand Earth burger was also very good! Also picked up some fruits from here which were very tasty.

What a disappointing visit to Down to Earth. Every summer when we fly into Maui, our first stop is this store — it’s been a tradition. But today, I had multiple frustrating experiences with several employees.

When I went to get milk, the fridge only had 2%. I asked an employee if they had whole milk, and she told me they were probably out due to the holiday (4th of July). I asked if she could check in the back, and she replied, “That’s not my department.” She did eventually get someone who said she would check — but I waited at least 12 minutes. I finally saw her walking around and smiled to remind her I was still waiting. She said, “Did you get your milk?” I told her no, and she said, “Well, I put it in the fridge.” There was no follow-up, no effort to let me know, and no sense of service — I was just standing there waiting.

Throughout the store, I was told “that’s not my department” by three different employees. No one offered to help me find someone who could assist. I asked another employee, who was stocking shelves, if they had lunch meat for sandwiches. Without even looking up, she said, “We’re a vegetarian store.” Fair enough. I then asked if they had eggs, and she just repeated, “We’re a vegetarian store.” I mentioned that eggs are vegetarian, and she ignored me entirely.

I also understand that prices can be high on an island, but the prices here were extreme — some of the highest I’ve seen — and combined with the apathetic, unhelpful staff, it made for a really unpleasant experience.

That said, I did speak with the manager before I left. She was kind, apologetic, and assured me this is not the level of customer service they aim to provide. She said she would follow up with the staff, which I appreciated. I left still disappointed, but at least feeling heard.

I was looking for mushroom coffee and products and came upon this place. They had a lot of alternative healthy supplements and good you can choose from. As well as local products such as tea, honey, spices, etc. it’s a bit more pricey though which is to be expected with organic products.
