We foolishly came at the weekday lunch rush but it was still worthwhile. The daily special bento was a great bargain. More a place for locals, and a few smart people who seek out such places.Kid-friendliness: Great! As long as you avoid the lunch rush because who wants to wait for a table when you got kids

Stopped by shortly before our flight to pick up a bento and it didn't disappoint. For $30, you get a huge box (easily feeds 2) which contains an assortment of fried and raw delectables. The stars were 2 peppermint hello kitty macaroons and the frosting piping work was immaculate. Almost felt bad eating them!

Ordered the hamachi kama with rice and mac salad for take out lunch today. Was pricy for lunch at $22+tax and tip. However, what I got was a very scrawny piece of fish with barely anything edible. I know it's the collar/neck part of the fish for this dish, but this portion was a joke for $22+. Plus the mac salad must have been running out at around 1pm because what I got seemed more 2 tablespoons worth of macaroni. Very disappointing. No yearn to return. ?

Small mom and pop japanese restaurant. Inexpensive basic quality food. Maybe the best spicy salmon roll I've ever had.

The restaurant looks like a small fish market, but I enjoyed it. The staff are very friendly, accommodating and the service was quick. Also, the food was delicious! I definitely recommend it.

Flew to Maui. Six hour flight. First place I came was Matsu. It’s hard to describe just how perfect this restaurant is. Absolutely without a single ounce of pretension. Putting out some of the best tempura and karaage around. Bento with tempura and simple sushi rolls was an absolute stunner. You’d be hard pressed to find better food anywhere in the world for $20.
