Goat cheese burger. Best burger we’ve ever had!!! Get it.
Great tuna tacos! Our group loved the bacon burger, chicken sandwich, and Yellow fin tuna sandwich.

For years we had seen the sign on Ali'i saying "Voted Yelp's 8th best burger in the US." Curiosity got the best of us and we finally decided to give it a try.
Island Ono Loa Grill is located tucked into the back of Ali'i Sunset Plaza in Kailua-Kona, just off the waterfront. Excellent location, especially if the sun has already set, or sunset meals aren't a big deal to you.
Looking at the menu, you quickly see that their 'off the waterfront' location nicely translates to lower prices than what you'll find in the restaurants with a view.
Island Ono Loa Grill offers and variety of different burgers, hot dogs, and an assortment of other meal options. Their offerings range from typical to what could be considered highly unusual.
The two others in my group ordered the basic cheeseburger, and the hamburger steak, respectively. When I saw that there was a peanut butter, bacon cheeseburger offered, I was at first a little taken back but I just couldn't get the idea out of my head so I decided "what the heck" and through caution to the wind.
All three burgers as well as the accompanying fries were fantastic! The fries weren't as crispy as I like, with the flavor was excellent. All the burgers were top notch.
All in all, I'd say Yelp got it right and those burgers are pretty dang tasty. I highly recommend you give it a shot.

The meat was juicy, spicy and really delicious. We had McNutt and Volcano Burger. I didn't like goat cheese in Korea, but it was attractive when spread on a burger like this. For sides, I recommend onion rings and sweet potato fries. The coleslaw is also refreshing and delicious.
Parking: If you register your license plate at the store, it is free for an hour and a half. (Sunset Parking Lot)

I'd give this place a 3.5 outta 5.
My burger while lacking any "thrills" the beef was fresh and prepared deliciously! Employees were quite friendly. While there is a disclaimer posted about long wait times, it should be noted that on a Sunday night that was not busy, my wife and I waited 30 minutes for our order. However, it was prepared perfectly and everything was fresh. So again, overall a good experience. My biggest complaint is the one upcharge... I didn't mind the $1.29 upcharge for the local beef, my request for an extra slice of cheese was ridiculous. It's a slice of cheese so I didn't think to ask. But upon reviewing the receipt it cost $1.79 for a single extra slice of cheese!!! That is just greedy.

Our burgers were ok, nothing overly special about them. They were lacking flavor. Our fries and onion rings were overcooked/burnt and way too salty. Be prepared for a 20+ minute wait for your food. They do have signs saying that it will take a while to receive your order,so patience is key. After all the up charges and tip, not worth it.

Island Ono Loa Grill was AMAZING. The burgers were so tasty! The local grassfed beef was an excellent choice. The applewood bacon was a perfect topping. The fries were good, but a little too salty in my opinion. If I really like a restaurant, I get a T-Shirt if they have them, and this place was a T-Shirt place. Very nice view and staff as well.
