Big Island Abalone is a unique aquaculture farm located in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, specializing in premium abalone. They offer a variety of experiences, including a food truck serving freshly prepared abalone dishes and a DIY barbecue area called Kona Barbeque.
We visited the food truck without a reservation and enjoyed a set that included both oysters and abalone. The staff was incredibly friendly and made our experience enjoyable. Both the abalone and oysters were fresh and delicious.

For those interested in the Kona Barbeque experience, it's important to note that reservations are required. This self-grilling BBQ area allows guests to cook their own meals using locally sourced ingredients, including abalone, lobster, shrimp, oysters, beef, and vegetables. The venue provides all necessary equipment, such as grills, utensils, and tableware. Reservations can be made online, and it's recommended to book at least 48 hours in advance.
Overall, Big Island Abalone offers a memorable culinary experience that combines fresh seafood with interactive dining. Whether you're stopping by the food truck or planning a BBQ, it's a must-visit spot for seafood lovers.😍

This is the place to go for abalone. They do an excellent job, cooked just right.

We paid $45 for the pound of grilled abalone with the garlic butter, and it was SO worth it! My entire family enjoyed it. I recommend asking for the spice caddy. They won't offer it unless you ask for it. Enjoy!

What a fun and different experience, Rayen was a friendly and gracious host and made sure we were happy and well taken care of. Food was prepped and ready for us to grill & included abalone, lobster, shrimp, chicken and steak - so much food we had to take some home. They provide sinks, towels, seasonings, utensils, plates and flatware; you can buy drinks onsite or bring your own which we did. This was a great addition to our abalone farm tour and I highly recommend you try it out. Yes it’s outdoors and can get quite hot but the entire area is shaded and open enough for air to blow thru which helps a lot.

They are still building their BBQ part. Provide you a grill and you purchase different grilling packages. They give you seasonings but you need lemon, butter salt to go with your lobster, shrimp and other shell

My son's a chef and we were celebrating a teenage birthday. Tried a risk on this new service and it was great. All the tools and seasonings and this great mango sauce. They Taught him how to cut and grill everything. Easy to find location. This is great! Highly recommend! We did it all in about 90 mins

Kona Barbeque is a unique and fun way to enjoy super fresh Kona seafood, outdoors, grilled just the way you like it. You order your seafood (or meats and vegetables) and the team fires up the grill for you and then you DIY grill it up as you like. Enjoy dining in the open air, under a canopy, next to the Big Island Abalone farm. It's a casual affair, and expect some airplanes and helicopters overhead, but it really feels like a home barbeque experience. Try the delicious smoked guava sauce and chimmichurri sauce, and homemade spice mixes. We loved the fresh shrimp and oysters, the abalone is an unusual and delicious treat, and the kanpachi fillet is fantastic grilled. We'll definitely come back and bring friends!
