January 31 & February 1:
Delighted to have ‘found’ this gem! Don’t let the low-key storefront location prevent you from enjoying the freshest Japanese cuisine I have found so far. You know you’re in the right place when you see plenty of local folks digging in. Get there early or you’ll be waiting a while. This is not the place to rush through. I had the best chicken tonkatsu and teriyaki chicken. The chicken breasts were pounded thin and covered in a light panko. The boneless white meat teriyaki chicken wasn’t drowned in thick gooey sauce but a light brown sauce with onions. Had we discovered Sakura earlier in our visit, we would have happily dined here every day! Terrific staff too.

This is the New York style sushi restaurant, for the price and quality of the rolls we will come back , better than another Chinese sushi restaurant in the island . Especially we can see the sushi chef making sushi in front of us.

I had the seared tuna and a Philly roll. The food was good, but service took a while to get going. There is ample free parking onsite.

Excellent food, presentation, service. We went there at 4:30pm Friday night. There was no waiting in line but by 6:00pm the place was really getting busy, but still no wait. Prices were average and definitely worth every penny. We had the sushi and sashimi combo which had a beautiful presentation and excellent, fresh fish with plenty of Wasabi and fresh ginger. Another member of our group had sizzling hot teriyaki with rice, salad and miso soup. He said it was very good, and it came with a bowl of rice. Ambiance was good, but it did get a little noisy toward the end of our meal. I highly recommend Sakura.

Prefect sushi, affordable too, and the waitress did a wonderful job! If you’re trying to decide on a place I’d give this one a shot.

Smaller than the Hilo Sakura. Better service and cleaner oil. Better plating.

By recommendation we decided to try out Sakura. Our group of 5 was seated immediately and had great service. We all ordered a Chef’s Special Roll for 5 Rolls total and had an amazing dinner. Each roll has a unique flavor and was super filling. My favorite roll for sure was the Godzilla Roll.

We also had to order the famous Tempura Cheesecake, and that was by far the best thing I have ever had. I’d highly recommend and if I’m ever back in Kona, I will be stopping in to Sakura.

We were in town during the tsunami warning and so thankful Sakura was open. Service was super friendly, food was absolutely perfect and we couldn’t have been more pleased. Be sure to give this place a visit while you are in town!!(even when there is no tsunami)
