Ate dosas and vadas
Quick and pretty good
The gentleman at the counter was extremely kind and helped me place my order, so service was excellent. However, I had never eaten a dosa before and it turned into a disaster. It was brought out to me without eating utensils, so I tried to fold it and eat it with bare hands. This didn't work. The shell was extremely brittle and broke leaving me with handfuls of filling and no napkins in sight! The three dipping sauces were tasty but the dosa wasn't firm enough for dipping, it would just break, so I didn't get to enjoy them. When I was done I rushed to the restroom to wash my hands, but it was locked! Ugh! And although the dosa tasted fine and looked huge, it was really just a piece of paper with a couple tablespoons of filling for $21, and did not constitute a full meal.
Dosas were crispy and nice. We were craving south Indian food after a week in Hawaii and this place was perfect.
We found this place as we were visiting big island for day. We ordered samosas, idli Vada combo, mysore masala dosa and filter coffee. The food arrived pretty quickly and everything was fresh and delicious. Loved the piping hot ghee coated idlis and crispy golden vada, crunchy samosas that reminded me of home. Mysore masala dosa was just perfect. Little low on salt in chutneys. Otherwise everything was impeccable. Kudos to the owner who has made an effort to promote Indian food on such a remote island.
Excellent quality food
Great taste and good options when you crave Indian food on the big island 👍 . Service is good too
A small place in a food court and not the place to come for ambience. We were traveling for Spring Break and as vegetarians this was worth the drive for us. The food was well prepared and tasted great. We ate the dosas right there to preserve the crispness instead of taking it our hotel room. The chutneys were delicious to go along. Everyone in our large group of travelers ranging from 5years to 70 years was pleased with the food and went back for seconds
We had a great experience at Swami Dosa in Kona! The food was fresh, flavorful, and authentic. We tried the Ghee Dosa, Masala Dosa, Podi Idli, and Medu Vada—everything was freshly made and tasted delicious. Highly recommend this spot if you’re craving South Indian food on the Big Island!
We tried mysore masala dosa and veggie biryani. Both were great. We loved it. This is heaven in the middle of a dessert.
The only place to find Dosa on the island. My friends and I live on the other side of the island and I've been wanting to take them here. I've had all the food before, just not from here. My friends have never tried any of this.
First off I have to say, everything was delicious. It's in a food court near Target, but it's a great atmosphere. Airy, slightly breezy, you get lots of natural light inside. The restrooms aren't far away.
I ordered everything for my friends to try.. I said do you want spicy? They agreed.
Two dosa's.. 1 - Mysore Masala with Ghee - spicy mashed potato with clarified butter inside a crispy crepe. 2- Podi with Ghee - spicy dry powder made from lentils (I believe) and other spices along with clarified butter. They were nice and crispy, pretty spicy, and very flavorful. Along side of this you get a side of tomato chutney, coconut chutney to dip in and also a side of sambar (vegetable soup).
Mixed Vegetable Uttapam - a pancake with vegetables cooked right into it. Carrots, tomato, pepper, and onion. Was excellent as well. Love the soft texture.
Medu Vada - a fried donut made from black lentil, curry leaves, and spices. Delicious also. In other restaurants it sometimes comes with a yogurt sauce of some sauce. It did not here. No worries. It's great soaked in the Sambar.
We also tried Masala Sprite and Masala Pepsi. I'm not sure what is in his recipe but it's typically stuff like black salt, cumin, masala spices, etc.
Before I left I ordered my friends a desert of Gulab Jamun. Balls of milk and other stuff, fried, and soaked in saffron or rose water of some sort. Be careful it's super hot. Oops. I didn't know this as I don't eat the desert often.
Spoke with the owner.. he's been here for 10 years. He's super friendly. I spoke a little (very little) Indian with him as I used to work at an Gujarati owned company and picked up some words.
Oh and by the way the food came out fast.
I'll definitely be back.

Reached counter at 8:23 PM, and it was mentioned that last order will be taken for dine-in/takeout until 8:30 PM.
However, they declined to serve stating that it was late and end of the day. Such a disappointment and unprofessional behaviour.
We love Indian food and found Swami’s Dosa Grill to try in Kailua Kona.
We had a Masala Dosa and it was absolutely delicious!
The potato onion filling was the best we’ve had and the chutneys were both superb. Sambar was great too. We look forward to eating there again before we head home.
Good quality food.
The Dosas were great here. Very delicious and tasty.
Dosa and idli are really good( I am a South Indian who eats dosa regularly). The tomato chutney and sambar served with dosa is good. The vegetable pulav is not that great.
