If you love smoked meats, check out chicken in a barrel! We shared the chicken plate for two which comes with two scoops of rice and a side of chili. The chicken is very tender. There's also bbq sauce that paired well with the chicken. This location has a few outdoor tables. The staff was very friendly and there's a tiny outdoor sink to wash your hands.

Absolutely loved the AWESOME baby back rib in my Sampler platter and the pulled beef , pulled pork and smoked chicken was great, as well. The side dish, beans tasted so home-made and fresh and the white rice was very good. The bbq sauce was great...next time I'm getting all pork ribs....SO GOOD! My wife had the Pulled pork nachos...she loved them. Very happy with the service there and the quality of the food. Not a heavy smoke flavor but enough to get your tastebuds attention.

Chicken in a Barrel has several locations on Kauai. In Kapa'a, they are a food truck with patio seating. Right off the ocean, the breeze keeps the place comfortyable. Great staff, not too busy to talk to visitors and very proud of their food. Really proud of what they do and it showed in the meals. I appreciate that they are not trying to recreate a mainland dish but add Hawaiian flavor to an American staple. The chcken is moist and the sauce has the spicy/sweetness you expect in Hawaii. Chili was the weak point of the meal, watery and lacked depth of flavor. macaroni salad is a Hawaiian staple and so much better here than in the south. Had their food a second day and still as good as the first.

Clucked over to Chicken In A Barrel BBQ in Kapaa during a South Pacific holiday awhile back in search of local food stuffs. Posted near the joyous sea, this slop joint has a grip of good vibes with comfortable seating all around right on the main drag through town. The sparkling clean food truck ambiance is inviting and lush. Plenty of good grub listed up & down a solid menu. The boss brother doing service duty is a friendly character. .... a real hoot. Informative, efficient and hilarious as hell.....tip well, amigos. A fresh tasty hot plate of island victuals was prepared in a matter of minutes. I'm not whistling Dixie when I declare that this very well was my best lunch of the trip. Do not forget to splash some of that extra savory dirty sauce in your bowl as it is next level excellent. Afterwards, saunter up or down the malecon, take deep breaths and be thankful. Highly recommended for visitors & locals alike. Stoner Grub Ranking: 9.0

Fun open restaurant inside a little shopping center. Great to experience the amazing Kauai weather, but we had a LOT of flies hovering around us the entire time which made eating a little annoying. We got the sampler, and the chicken and ribs were our favorite. Pulled beef was just ok. Pulled pork was good but not the best we had in our trip. Chili was not as flavorful as we had hoped, so we didn't finish it. Brown rice was as expected. We shared the sampler between two adults. Kids loved the chicken and fries. There is a soda fountain and fun fill your own beer cup available for those 21+.

Delicious! We got the sampler plate, with coleslaw, rice and a side of Mac.Hubby ate the Mac, the rest was gluten free including the bbq sauce. The chicken was my favorite. So flavorful without any sauce! Great pick for classic bbq where the smoke does the work!Dietary restrictions: All meat gluten free

11 years later and I'm back! The original outdoor location has changed a lot...smaller, cleaner, and more modern. Service was friendly...though I felt guilty eating chicken around the feral chickens. Note, the Coconut Marketplace is a nicer location with covered seating, and beer, but slightly higher prices. $21Chicken and Ribs Plate...I opted for the breast and wing...the smokey tender chicken is juicy and delicious, loved smokey flavor, and the crispy skin! The baby back ribs are actually quite large! Thick and meaty, with a nice dry rub. Chili and rice sides are nice complements, though I wish they offered potato sides. $5 coleslaw was fresh, flavorful, with a citrus Hawaiian flair.

This is a must stop, atmosphere is great, employees are great, owners Keoni and Natalie are awesome. I'm here every visit to the island and daily if my wife lets me, I can't get enough of their food and fellowship.
