It is a restaurant inside of a hotel the restaurant is delicious The salad with papaya dressing is a must I do not even like salads but I will eat this whole thing. Unfortunately my wife wanted some of it. My wife got a 5 course meal she absolutely loved it

Honestly the food was disappointing for such a highly rated restaurant on google...the macadamia nuts on my salad tasted old...tomato's old/refrigerator taste...Ahi Entre was wading in a grainy potato/onion broth...just very uninspired food. The Ahi itself was fine...not the best, not the worst.
The service and atmosphere were great but I would expect fresher tasting food as the dishes here were very uninspired in flavor.
Skip this place in favor of more local establishments—as we've had more amazing food elsewhere on the island.

Hukilau Lanai is very busy and bustling restaurant. I highly recommend to make reservations before hand due to the high demand. Service was good, it could be improved we were placed in the end in a dim room away from the beauty of the night lights and fire. The server was attentive but as it’s in a separate room he wasn’t around to take any requests when needed. Food was expectational all the kudos to the chef. We had calamari, lobster bisque, salad and two entrees. The entrees come with side of salad or soup. The calamari was really good, salad has good flavors and lobster bisque didn’t have any lobster chunks but the soup was flavorful. The entrees we ordered the trio catch fish and vegetable lasagna. The trio fish was an outstanding combination overall. The lasagna was flavorful on the cheesy side. The dessert chocolate cake as mentioned you need to order 20 mins ahead but it was okay overall it all complimented the meal. I would highly recommend anyone to visit this restaurant.

We love this restaurant! My wife and I had the Fish ‘sampler’ and the steak. WOW, absolutely perfect! I only wished I canceled my reservations for a restaurant the following night and came back to this one instead! Appetizers, drinks, atmosphere and service was perfect as well.

Best dinner we had in Kauai by far!! The Candied Ahi was mind-blowing! And really every bite we ate of our whole meal was delicious. The menu is truly innovative (unlike many restaurants we looked at in Kauai), the atmosphere was nice (live music), and a nice view. Couldn’t have asked for a better dinner for our last night on the island. Highly recommend it!
We celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary here. It was awesome! Fresh salads. Filet Mignon on point. And finally the lavender chocolate cake! You can't do it better! An unforgettable evening! Thank you very much
I’m giving 2 stars which is generous if I’m honest. My girlfriend and I walked in and if I should have left there and then really. Front of house had an extremely unwelcoming face when we came in, maybe they were stressed or having a bad day so thought nothing of it.
We then were seated quite far away from anyonelse which was great, so plus marks there. Almost felt like it was just us with the closest table being maybe 15 ft away.
We decided to order a few starters rather than a main given a sizeable lunch we had earlier, this is when things started to do down hill. The ribs tasted very cheap like the ones you get from a Chinese takeaway. I love baby back and short ribs but these tasted substandard is the only way I can describe it. I would have fed this back to the waitress had she asked how the food was, she did not.
We also had the nachos which were to our liking at all with the won tons. They tasted charred, and unappetising. The calamari was lovely however so we do recommend this and this alone from the starters if you do visit.
We also had the Lobster and goat cheese ravioli which was okay, but you will struggle to see any lobster inside the pockets. Once again not good enough for the prices being charged here.
Lastly our waitress took a considerable amount of time to ask for our dessert which wasn’t ideal considering the chocolate lava cake takes 20 minutes to prepare, which we were aware of as this is stated on the menu which was good as expectations were set on the turnaround time anyway. The chocolate lava cake is modest in size and lava also, but did taste nice and satisfy overall I guess.
I must say how this establishment had a 4.7 I find very surprising, given our experience in conjunction with the fact that it was our fast bad meal in Hawai.
My tips for improvement in the future would be the following
- Front of house make the first impression to the customer experience, if they can greet customers with a smile and warm welcome it goes a long way.
- Waitress needs to be friendly and warm rather than so cold.
- Food execution needs to be addressed as a matter of priority. Better of charging an additional $10 on premium dishes, e.g lobster and providing more rather than modest potions where people are let down. The ribs are prime example of this, better of charging more rather than serving sub quality meat where customers leave them which we did.
