The food was ok, not the greatest. Although we were some of the only customers in the restaurant the food was mediocre. I would not go back, there are plenty of better restaurants in Kihei.

Loved the visit we had here. We shared a Genbe Roll and both a Tonkatsu and Black Tonkatsu ramen with added marinated egg. SO full of delicious flavors! I only wish there was more to eat because it was that good! Also loved the small shop vibe, the friendly staff (we were laughing about shows that were playing on their TV), and the little anime touches.

Excellent service, food and presentation at Izakaya Genbe. Many dishes you cannot find in other Maui restaurants. Reasonably priced and casual atmosphere make this a great place for the family as well. Well done and we will be back.

The food was decent — no complaints there.
But watch out when it comes to the bill.

We believe we were overcharged by about $20. It looks like a 20% tip was already included in the total, but then the credit card machine still prompted us to add another tip — also defaulting to 20%. It’s partly on us for not double-checking, but the way it's presented is confusing at best, and misleading at worst.

If you decide to dine here, enjoy the food — but read your bill carefully before paying.

A great meal! Fresh fish, savory ramen, & crispy yet light tempura.

As an Asian, this is the WORST Japanese restaurant I ever had in my life.

First, the food is overpriced for its super small portion, especially compared to other hawaiian restaurants we have eaten before.

The mushroom don only have 6 to 7 small peices mushroom for $16.5

we have ordered 3 dons for 3 people and we are still hungry after eating (beef udon, Oyakodon, mushroom don) , and we all have small stomach.

Also, the food is extremely salty for every order we eat here. Flavor is also mediocre.

Lastly is the attitude and service, when we give the feedback to them, they behave like this is normal Japanese restaurant portion, and if you feel salty you should drink more water, such attitude is unacceptable.

Avoid this place.

Among all the great Japanese restaurants in Hawaii, this one may not stand out. Their food is authentic and decent, but I think what truly elevates the experience is the service, the staff were incredibly friendly and made the atmosphere feel authentic and welcoming. It’s a solid choice still!

I’m back for the second day in a row and I’m personally surprised by all the vibrant flavors combusting together to create a vivid, acidic, seasoned lunch☺️

Have not had authentic Japanese food since moving to Canada six years ago. This restaurant reminds me of those home operated restaurants in Okinawa. Really appreciate the food and everything. Will come back for every meal during my stay in Maui.
