Double smash burger with truffle fries for happy hour is the bomb. Pork belly appetizer is excellent.

I have conflicting emotions regarding this establishment. The interior has been remarkably enhanced, and the service along with the drinks consistently meets high standards. However, the food consistently disappoints, and given the prices, I anticipate a significantly higher quality. I sampled several items from the menu, including truffle mac and cheese, wings, steak app, and bao buns. Among these appetizers, the mac and cheese was my preferred choice, although it did not appeal to the rest of my party. Conversely, the bao buns were my least favorite; while the bun was warm, the pork was served cold and lacked flavor, accompanied by a cold poi sauce that was equally bland—this was, without a doubt, the most disappointing dish I have encountered. The steak app was also served cold and was not tender, which was particularly disheartening given the price point. The wings were decent, primarily due to the homemade ranch dipping sauce. My friends who shared the burger expressed their satisfaction with it. I ordered an espresso martini, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Aside from the food, the service, drinks, and ambiance are commendable. However, I do not plan to return for a meal, opting instead to visit solely for drinks.

My wife and I came to the gritty town of Makawao for a couple steaks. We had a parking lot view. With a salad, drinks, and tip it cost us over $200. I wasn’t expecting Mama’s Fish House prices for a local restaurant. The steaks were average at best. For us it’s one time and done. They’ll be lucky to last a year.

Great food and drinks!
We went with friends! It’s ok! Not the best, you can have a nice moment! But prices and quality not matching for me!
Although I live within walking distance, this was my first time to Makawao Public House since it was the Makawao Steakhouse. I do miss the charm of the open wood fire. Happy to see some of the original lounge seating preserved. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The furniture layout is modern and inviting. The Baldwin Ave. cocktail was fantastic! I'm happy to see this historic spot still alive and flourishing. I would recommend this restaurant to both locals and visitors. It is a special spot, a must-do in Makawao town.
Loved this place! We'd been to the venue before it changed ownership and the changes Makawao Public House have made are outstanding! The remodeled dining rooms, remodeled bar, and especially the new bathrooms are amazing!! And the food! Everything we tried was so delicious! The bao buns were next level! The wedge salad (which is so difficult to get on Maui) was fresh and delightful! Fish and chips were on point and generous serving. We were very pleasantly surprised by the prices as well! Well done, Makawao Public House- you're our new favorite restaurant!!
Our large party of 10 had a fabulous time! Great ambience, delicious food and attentive service by Celeste. Definitely make advance reservations on Open Table and don't try to call cause nobody answers. The place was packed when we got there at 7:15pm. Parking on street as well as backside of restaurant. Enjoyable evening and no doubt, we wjll be back! mahalo ??
Server was a bit bland, hardly smiled and had no personality didn't get his name but neither will I call him out on it just do better, food was amazing no complaints! Will be back soon.

First time for all of us at public house as we live in Kihei. We had a really good time. Service was great. Food was delicious. We can't wait to try some more treats on the menu. Thank you for a lovely time!
The food was fantastic as always but sadly our server never once checked back with us to see how everything was. We both would have ordered another drink but that's pretty difficult to do when they never return to your table. We ended our meal with empty cocktails and water glasses. It was not busy at all. Next time we will request our server.
Wow! My first time ever going to Makawao Public House and I was not disappointed. From the moment I walked in, I enjoyed myself! We had a reservation at 6:45 and when we arrived we got sat immediately, the services was great but the food. Oh the food. It was so good I couldn't find a single thing to even consider complaining about. We ate the Bao Buns & Ahi Bites for pupu's and steak for dinner. I will definitely be a regular!! If you don't wanna be disappointed, come and eat!! You will leave full and happy ????
This has been our "go to" place for Friday dinner for a month now. Liking their Fish 'n Chips, as we are from the East Coast and love a good fish fry. We thought we found the place but perhaps a moment too soon. The Fish is served either as two, large flaky pieces, or three passed on as "stick" fingers (in actuality, I believe the larger pieces are cut in half for portion control). I have had both, four times, and the fish has been delicious - until yesterday. Yesterday we were served two orders, both undercooked with raw batter surrounding the uncooked fish. The outside appeared done, was golden brown and very hot. One of the waitresses came by and I asked for her assistance, explaned the situation and she took both plates, verbally explaining with they'd "make it right". Then, our table waitress came by, inquired as to our plates, and I explained to her what had happened. She told us that they would make us new entrees and to let her know when they returned. The runner came back with our plates, saying "we gave you new fries". They had re fried the battered fish, not realizing that once batter is corrupted, you throw deep fried fish like that out. The fish was ruined and most of the batter was corrupted with the liquid from the fish-in addition to the fact that the "golden brown" was now a mesa brown. It was early, too. The 5PM seating. You expect more when you drop $100 p/p for a Friday night Fish Fry with cocktails. At a minimum, Fish that has been properly battered and fried, and served with a portion consistency, i.e., two pieces instead of three. Lemon Drops are always stellar as are other libations from the mixologist. Highly disappointed. It's not like there were a lot of covers to get out...
