1st time @Kuni...&I was born &raised in Pearl City 71yrs ago. Recommendation to dine here came from a friend who ate here a long time ago. Service was good, food was excellent &portions generous. Will be back.

This review is based on the atmosphere and not the food, which is always good. Very disappointed in my visit to Kuni's. There was 2 tables in the restaurant with drinking, loud talking with profane language and loud laughing. No one in management did anything. This would never happened in the old Kuni's. Those customers should have been moved to the bar where the door can be closed.

We went for the first time with my family on my birthday to get the free birthday meal. There were some parking available. Server was not friendly or did not have any recommendations, she also did not ask If we wanted any combo/sets together, I ended up getting everything Ala carte, which I ended up paying more because I did not know how the menu was set. The food was alright. Wait was not too long. We went at around lunch on a Saturday and It was not too busy. Our table was a little small for the four of us. Another server had refilled our waters and asked If we were okay. When we got the bill she told me show put the discount on there, but it was only for a friends and family discount which took off $9. So I did not get a free birthday meal. I did not want not to complain there so I just paid for it and did not say anything, other than that I feel If I had better service, I would go there more often.

Went to celebrate my wife's birthday this past Saturday at Kunis. The last time we went was last year when we celebrated my birthday. I called in the reservation but probably should have made it through Yelp since you can get a free birthday meal. Though it would probably need to be your actual birthday. The day of the dinner they called me to ask me a couple of questions like if we needed a high chair (got my 2 grandkids) and if we were celebrating anything. I told them it was for my wife's birthday, they asked if it was on that day and I honestly said no. Someone near us celebrated a birthday and they turned off the lights and sang happy birthday to her. I'd probably give the rating 4.5 if I could. I knocked off half a star as my Teri steak was cold. It was still ok, but I'm sure it would have been better hot/warm. I did really like the fried akule, that was good. Someone next to us got the family style dinner. They had a stand to place the multiple plates of food. That looked good, maybe next time. They have a fairly large parking lot but it is kind of dark. I'll definitely go back again to celebrate a special occassion.

Still my favorite restaurant on the west side. The food tastes phenomenal and nostalgic. Reminds me of things in the 90s. Prices went up a little, but still affordable for the amount of food and tastes. Their sashimi is amazing. The tempura is bomb. The Teri beef and tofu steak you can't go wrong. All around one of the best restaurants on the island. Keep it a secret so it doesn't get too crowded! Lol

We order take out curbside so didn't go inside. I had the BUTTERFISH BOWL. I swear it was the BEST MISO BUTTERFISH I'VE EVER EATEN! plus I'm not a big rice eater. I ate every bit of the rice too!b my hubby had the 2 choice plate meal. He chose the fried akule and tempura shrimp. He ate EVERY MORSEL OF THE MEAL, EVEN ALL OF THE SIDE DISHES! Also, the MISO SOUP at KUNIS in waipahu is THE BEST MISO WE'VE EATEN, real tofu, great flavor! Just wish it had more seaweed. Still the food was EXCELLENT and they kindly brought it out to me as im disabled. WE WILL BE ORDERING AGAIN SOON!

What a pleasant surprise this is I've been going here for years a staple place as matter fact they're tempura is off the charts that's how good it is but it's tucked back in kind of little shopping mall outdoor strip mall type thing next to a porno place and I wouldn't park in front of that. It's kind of the creep zone but when you get inside the bar, the bartender is a smoking hot chick and she's cool as hell always have great looking bartenders. The food is fantastic. I recommend eating at the bar or stare at the bartender.

Awesome dinner! Food was delicious and service excellent! Also, took advantage of the special -if it's your birthday, you get a free meal! Worth it!! We had the rib eye steak and 3 combo teishoku that came with sashimi, tempura and katsu.

I had a rather disappointing experience at this establishment, which I regret to say falls short on multiple fronts. My choice of Nabemono, hoping for a delightful seafood broth, was met with an unpalatable taste. Contrary to what one might expect, the dish was inexplicably interspersed with random pieces of chicken and only a scant selection of fish, which was unfortunately overcooked to the point of resembling rubber. Additionally, the lettuce included was marred by black spots indicative of bacterial leaf spots, further detracting from the meal's appeal. The ambiance, or rather the lack thereof, did nothing to enhance the dining experience. The decor is stark, characterized by bare walls and dark, unwelcoming benches. The absence of music only amplifies the cacophony of overly loud conversations, which reverberate off the empty walls, creating a rather unsettling atmosphere.Despite the premium pricing, the restaurant fails to deliver a quality experience. Moreover, the parking lot's pervasive odor of urine only adds insult to injury. I would advise potential patrons to consider alternative dining options, unless options are severely limited.

Newly remodeled with the best home style Japanese cooking. The two chicken was broke da mout ono w pleasant presentation. The sukiyaki w watercress was too huge for 1 person. The poke was awesome fresh & andagi (Okinawan doughnut) was the coup de grace that I could only show you my happy plate. ?
