Saw a lot of negative reviews about the store owner, so I was hesitant to visit. However, my family had a positive experience with the staff. The apricot struesel bread and kolache were both excellent and fairly priced.
Wide variety of bakery items. I took home two loaves of bread, and a few desserts/pastries.
The cream horn had the most delicious cream filling, but the horn was pretty dry. I had high hopes for the apple strudel. The pastry with sugar sprinkle was tasty, but there was barely any apple filling.
The pumpernickel rye was good, with a very light rye flavor. The cinnamon twist bread lacked flavor.
My mom and I came in for a fabulous rhubarb pie and Victoria was so fabulous and the pie was amazing! What a gem!!!
I really wanted to like the bakery at the Amana Colony. Sadly, the bread we bought at the bakery was awful. The crust was soft, the crumb dry and brittle. The pumpernickel tasted old. Steer clear.
I’ve had the pleasure of spending time with the owner of this bakery—both in her kitchen and as a customer. We’ve even sold her cakes at my restaurant, and they’ve always been a hit. Her pies, pastries, cakes—and even her homemade dog treats—are all top-notch. She runs the bakery with the help of her family, and the love and care they put into their work really shows.

As for the prices, they’re completely reasonable for the quality and care that goes into each item. Support local!
Better be ready to spend a ton of money for sub-par food with small portions. The pies are good. The rest tastes like it came from a factory, frozen and warmed up in store. There are other places nearby that live up the the Amana Colonies namesake.
Cinnamon Sugar bread is delicious and great espresso.
The service was terrible , ran very poorly , and very expensive. My girl friend thought she seen a mouse 😩
Enjoyed a late morning pastry, still plenty to choose from! Very friendly and helpful staff, clean bathrooms(for customers only) and seating.

I really wish I would have read these reviews, before purchasing almost $50 of bakery. We just arrived back home, unpacked and I thought let's have our treats we just bought 5 hours ago. They were awful. No flavor. No taste of what they claimed to be. Unbelievably expensive. Buyer be ware. Stay away. It's not worth it at all. Go to the restaurant with the word Ox in it. Their bakery is out of this world. I would be embarrassed to be called a bakery and I am in shock that Amana would allow this.
Prices are bad and food is worse. Egg salad was sweet, why? Bread was dry. Cream puff had pudding in it. Best part of lunch were the doritos.

Interesting that one cream puff and double shot espresso will cost you $11! Keep that money for Manhattan!
Also when I asked for receipt I got one not specifying the articles bought just total amount charged from the card. You will get your coffee in to-go cup and if you ask for water - you will have to buy bottled. In case you want to go to restroom, you will have to ask them to give you the key hanging on the spoon.
And def the quality of food is average, don’t expect real authentic German/Austrian pastry or experience.
We been coming to AMANA for over 20 years . This bakery is a joke 6.50 for a cream filled long John and 21.00 for a apple pie they are really ripping people off

This place is a tourist trap, very expensive coffee, bakery bread is so so (not fresh tho but no super old). Another couple ordered breakfast and I saw how it was put in the microwave and then wrap it and then give to them.
