Prices are bad and food is worse. Egg salad was sweet, why? Bread was dry. Cream puff had pudding in it. Best part of lunch were the doritos.

Interesting that one cream puff and double shot espresso will cost you $11! Keep that money for Manhattan!
Also when I asked for receipt I got one not specifying the articles bought just total amount charged from the card. You will get your coffee in to-go cup and if you ask for water - you will have to buy bottled. In case you want to go to restroom, you will have to ask them to give you the key hanging on the spoon.
And def the quality of food is average, don’t expect real authentic German/Austrian pastry or experience.
We been coming to AMANA for over 20 years . This bakery is a joke 6.50 for a cream filled long John and 21.00 for a apple pie they are really ripping people off

This place is a tourist trap, very expensive coffee, bakery bread is so so (not fresh tho but no super old). Another couple ordered breakfast and I saw how it was put in the microwave and then wrap it and then give to them.

Customer service was so terrible. This is our second time here and both times equally terrible customer service.

I don't buy my bread anywhere else! The cinnamon twist and crunch breads are perfect for French Toast (and I used to hate French Toast, so that's saying something!!), the kolaches melt in your mouth, and don't even get me started on the apple dumplings. I gave up trying to lose weight after I discovered those. Plus, the monthly coffee menu is always fun and fresh, and the Amana Sunrise energy drink is such a refreshing way to greet the day!
I ordered a 4 layer chocolate cake for my father's 88th birthday celebration. The cake was frozen and very dry! Every guest mentioned how dry the FROZEN cake was. I paid over $80 and left a $10 tip, for an old, dry, frozen cake, For that price I would expect a fresh cake. Shameful!
Edit to add- the bakery responded to my complaint and asked me to “return the cake” so they could research what happened. Lol. I don’t normally pick up a cake to serve at a later date therefore I’m unable to return it. I’m still laughing at the proposed resolution.

Bought a ham salad sandwich which the bread fell apart like it was very old. Also bought cinnamon raisin bread that was dry and crumbly. Only good bread was the marble rye

We wanted so badly to like this bakery. We visit the Amanas frequently but had not visited the bakery in quite a few years.
When we entered, the shop was really chilly but the presentation was nice. Lots of very nicely presented baked goods.
On this visit we had stopped down in the Amanas to stock up on some of the fantastic coffee at the Amana General store and then decided to go get a bite at the bakery.
It was very quiet due to it being a rainy day, so we were the only ones ordering around noon.
We both ordered deli sandwiches. They were very simple orders as they limit you to three additional ingredients and one condiment after choosing a meat.
Somehow, they managed to mess up both orders. Mine was loaded with black olives which neither of us ordered. My wife's order was loaded with tomatoes which she did not order. In addition to completely getting our orders wrong, and I mean everything wrong except the choice of meat, the wraps were tiny and were handed to us on cheap white paper plates. The wraps, around 13 to 14 bucks a piece, were smaller than the 8-in plate and less than 2 in diameter. I really wish I would have taken photos. For that we paid, over $30 after the " pushed" tip they asked for in advance, It was a very disappointing visit. Both of the wraps were slathered in ranch dressing of which only one of us ordered.
Like I said at the beginning of my review, we really wanted to like this place. The kids behind the counter seem nice, but that's about where the quality of service, food, and atmosphere ended.
If you're visiting from nearby or out of state I highly recommend the Amana colonies but I would avoid the bakery. There are dozens of great other shops to visit at the Amanas. We love it there.
Read some of the other reviews and you'll understand. We certainly wish we would have before we visited.

TOURIST TRAP!
Everything is overpriced and apparently made in house but that’s not true. $11.00 for a breakfast sandwich that was thrown in the microwave and the size of a hockey puck. Horrible.
They don’t have any cups for water so they charge you for bottled water. Also, a 16 oz Americano doesn’t need to be $6.15. It’s two shots of espresso and water.
You’re better off going somewhere else rather than supporting this place.

Such an amazing experience. They went above and beyond in preparing a custom birthday cake for us! Everyone that tried it asked where they can get it and we gladly spread the word. This will most likely be our only place to get cakes in the future.

The sandwiches we ordered were way overpriced and did’t taste good at all!! The pastries were OK, but not excellent either.
