Stopped by for dinner on our way through town and had hands down the best service we’ve ever had at a business. Kailee was so sweet and treated us like her own family. She was always attentive and smiling, making our dinner so enjoyable. Food was great, but will be returning and requesting Kailee!

This place is an Ames institution. It is total American comfort food at surprisingly reasonable prices. The menu is huge, they have Coke and Pepsi, and at the end of the day, we are all here for the ice cream. I am impressed with how they continue to be so efficient and the service is top notch for such a large restaurant. I think their food is delicious. I am sure you can scroll through the reviews and see foodies complaining because the place isn’t hip and modern, but they miss the point. I think it’s the kind of place I love and though I was afraid that they (as most places) wouldn’t bounce back from Covid- seem to have returned to the great place of my memory

We enjoyed a decent lunch opting for smoked beef. Was it the best bbq we've ever had, no, but it certainly outshown many other sandwiches. Our waitress was very pleasant, service was quick and responsive, and the restaurant (inside and out) offered a delicious aroma of smoke.

This restaurant is HUGE and can accomodate big groups. But since the good is great and is a good value, it is often crowded and on weekends you should expect a wait. But the wait is worth it! Enjoy a sampler plate and you'll love it. Service with a smile and an atmosphere that is mid-west at its finest. Don't miss the dime candy bar for the kids before you leave!

Extensive menu with a fun atmosphere and friendly and responsive servers. The food was well prepared and reasonably priced. The food was neither gourmet cuisine nor merely comfort food, but would fit in the barbecue / casual category. This is a large locally popular restaurant with a western theme. We had a pleasant experience with another couple. Plenty of parking on their parking lot.

Visiting the area. The very full parking lot was a great indication of what’s inside. A very busy Friday night, but we were still seated immediately. This place is HUGE inside. Our server Sam was a delight. She answered all our questions, then gave us time to consider. Ordered the the brisket plate, turkey sandwich, club salad, and bbq plate. Everything was delicious. The side salad is a very generous portion, as is the club salad. Meat platters are solid 8-10 oz of protein. We would have tried the ice cream, but we were stuffed. Definitely recommend.

We had never been to Hickory Park Restaurant before. It was soooo good. So many items to choose from. Just leave room for ice cream because there are a lot, I mean a lot to choose from!! You will enjoy the atmosphere and our waiter was the best. Very attentive.

As others have stated, this is a huge restaurant. We were there around noon on a week day and the parking lot was very full but there was no wait. Our server Noah was terrific. The menu is very large and I’m sure their ice cream is wonderful (there was a whole placemat full of sweet options). My husband and I were not crazy about our sandwiches; the bread was pretty bland and not crusty. Both the potato salad and coleslaw were good. Prices are fair. I’m sure it’s a good place for families as there is a lot of variety.

Had a delicious turkey sandwhich and potato salad as the side. Charming server and amazing fountain soda. Visiting from Texas and loved it!

First visit. Found it on Trip Advisor. Highly rated and now I know why. It’s very big. I met a man there for the first time. Perfect for a Sunday lunch. Reasonable prices! We had the smoked chicken dinner. He ordered a half dark meat chicken. Way too much food for one person. I ordered the 11/4 white meat chicken with a salad and bacon & green beans. Delicious. The chicken was smoky, tender and juicy. The side salad and beans were also yummy. I requested that tomatoes be added. We finished after talking awhile with small sundaes. The perfect ending with coffee. I was so glad it wasn’t crowded because they are so big. Tables and booths galore. I’d highly recommend this restaurant. Service was subservient. Our waitress was very friendly to. I made a new friend of her too.

Always worth a stop when going through Ames.

Indulged into the pork tenderloin. Look and taste seemed to be made from pre-made frozen stock. Tasted good and the extras of lettuce tomato and pickles cost was extra. Should had gone with a beef, turkey mix. Still it was filling and the wait staff was friendly. Was a good visit.

Absolutely fantastic. Food was perfect. Best ice-cream I've had in a long time. Staff was great, checked with us the perfect amount. Awesome little windows to open up for the large group we had.

It has been 31 years since I have last eaten here. We left with leftovers, so that means we were filled. Great service. Fast seating and quick food delivery.

Big restaurant with lots of seating. Very efficient in the way this establishment is run. You can tell they're used to handling large volumes of guests. Service was quick and responsive. The food, we both ordered the regular rib dinner, included 8-10 bones of very good ribs and came with. Choice of 2 sides and a fresh baked dinner roll. Sides we had were the Mac and cheese, coleslaw (x2), and macaroni salad. All were basic but good. They have an extensive dessert menu, but we were full after eating, so we did not sample any. I would definitely recommend trying this place if you find yourself passi n g through Ames.
