While on a road trip, stayed at the adjoining hotel. Hotel was very dated but this restaurant was the best Italian food I’ve ever eaten. I had the Veil Albanase.

This was my 3rd time here. The first 2 times were great, I would have said 4 stars, food was good, service, etc. This time was very different. My parents were visiting from out of town, I was excited to take them and had been talking-it-up to them. We were a party of six, we sat almost right away, which was great, however the hostess barely acknowledged us and gave off the "i hate my job" vibe. We sat for about 15 minutes before anyone took our drink order. Our server was very apologetic so, ok....no problem. After we got our drinks and when she finally took our order she seemed very frazzled. Those of us who had a side salad got those quick. My dad ordered soup instead, and had to remind the server 15 mins later. During that time my 12yr old daughter found a bug ? moving around in her salad. We were immediately grossed out but the server handled it well and said the boss would comp us dessert if we wanted. By that time we had pretty much lost our appetite. When our main dishes came, they looked appetizing, but mine was not hot and appeared like it had sat out a while - it was a fish dish, I pushed it around on my plate and ate some noodles, that was it. Our server became less and less present as the meal went on. We needed refills and silverware (we sent back with the buggy salad) and just waited. We finally had to stop a different staff to assist. At the end of the meal we asked for a box for one edible dish - box never came. We got a piece of cake for our "free" dessert to-go. ...... we ended up getting billed for the dessert. I'm not sure what happened between today and the last time i was there, just a few months ago. I will never go back.

This restaurant makes delicious Italian food and has many options so pretty much anyone can find something they like. The staff is also so nice, and brought me some cheesecake on my birthday last year. Ames has been seriously lacking in Italian food most of my life and this place is better tasting and more reasonably priced than plus 39 was. Much more authentic Italian food than you would get by driving to Ankeny for Olive Garden. The location may lead people to not bother driving out there, but I promise it is worth it. Ive seen many Italian restaurants come to town for a few years and close in my life, but this one truly deserves to make it. There’s so many things on the menu I want to try and I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone who likes Italian food or wants to try something new!!

Arrived around 6pm on a Saturday night. There was no waiting and we were seated quickly. Our waiter was quickly taking our drink orders, he brought them quickly and he kept track of our order and delivered to us piping hot meals. The salads were fresh and crisp with excellent taste and the fresh hot baked bread loafs were beyond awesome! Our entrees were large and exceptionally prepared with very good taste! Price of items were very reasonable! After we were seated several large groups were seated immediately, no one waited in line but is was almost a continuous flow of people! Five stars are not enough, this is a gem and we will return often!
