The food was real, had great flavor and complexity but the dishes were pretty small and expensive. Our server was sweet, not crazy attentive and In your face but maybe it’d up the attention like 20%?! Idk I just think it was way over priced to leave still hungry. And the steak from the steak and eggs was super chewy

This is always a lovely place to visit in Ames. Our food was really good, though there was a bit of a wait. We also arrived an hour before close, and I appreciated the staff being really accommodating for that.
We ordered the pumpkin risotto and the creole mahi sandwich. The risotto was really creamy with a nice balsamic drizzle. Their chicken add-on was also added a nice juicy texture. While the salad on top complimented the dish flavor wise, it did wilt the longer I ate. Lastly, some of the pumpkin was maybe a tad over cooked for my taste.
The creole mahi sandwich was cooked to perfection. It was very flaky. The toppings really complemented each other, and the red onion was pickled to prevent it from overpowering the dish. It was also not spicy, but spiced. We did not order dessert, but from experience, it’s always really nice.

Service was always amazing, every time I come here whoever is serving despite however busy it is, is always on top of everything and still makes me feel like a priority. The only reason the food wasn't 5 stars was because online it says after 10 there was a hanger steak and eggs option that I've had several times before and it is always amazing, that had been changed to Korean steak and eggs and as someone who isn't fond of ginger or kimchi I was slightly disappointed. However splitting the pepper and sausage pizza had me quickly forgetting my disappointment. It was to die for. All around the set up and atmosphere is always fantastic and the music choice just adds to the ambiance.

I have been a huge fan of this place for numerous years. My wife and I actually got engaged here back in 2006.

Food used to be good, but it isn’t anymore. Pastries are awesome, but everything else is mediocre at best.

Great spot in Ames. You're greeted by the delicious smell of smokey goodness as you enter, but don't be fooled, this is not a BBQ spot. They do everything well. Great apps, cocktails, and great entrees of both land and sea. The cozy atmosphere toes the line between diner and fine eatery, and I loved every minute of it. All I can say is I'll be back for more!

Whether you're craving a chill breakfast or a laid-back lunch, this place won't let you down. It's got a super cozy vibe.
Their coffee is killer, and with refills– perfect for kicking off your day or enjoying with one of their sweet treats.
The staff is super friendly and attentive without being too much.
If you're a local or just passing through, I totally recommend checking out The Cafe.

The Cafe is a great place if you are wanting designer or artisan food. Prices are alright and service was lacking to me. The atmosphere is a little snooty and pretentious. If you are looking for a place to impress a date, have a formal business luncheon, breakfast, and/or meeting along or get together as a large group they are perfect. If you are hungry and looking for a down home Iowa breakfast this is not the place.
There is No steak and eggs, and because it's all artisan and designer you end up with odd combinations.
It definitely is popular and well maintained but if you have kids below 5 the staff which seemed more annoyed to deal with our family than anything.
I probably won't eat here again unless a friend requests it.

Wonderful dinner. Had the pork dish that was wonderful and so flavorful. The dessert was amazing and our server, Olivia, was fantastic. Friendly, offered suggestions, and checked in! Highly recommended this place!

Cozy space, ideal for full breakfasts or lunches. It has parking at the door, spacious and in general there is space. There are also a variety of cakes and sweet delicacies, which they prepare to take away.

We took our family to The Cafe, a favorite of my husband and I’s from our college days, and grabbed breakfast. HOLY MOLY was it delicious. The staff was so kind and friendly to our littles, and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal!
