Our favorite place to eat in Ames, from the 1980s through today. Unmatched anywhere!

The best pizza in Ames. We love the oat crust. You get to dip it in honey when you are done with the slice. It's like having dessert.

This was a splurge meal for someone who is low sodium. It was very well worth it!! They choose the Buffalo on a thin crust. It was delicious and just as expected! We also got The Prairie Special on the Idaho crust. This was our favorite crust! Great flavor and texture! The toppings were a different combo than I had tried before, but I greatly enjoyed them. One of our "meat only" members thought it was their favorite of our 3.The last pizza was all meat except shrimp and chicken on the Denver thick crust with honey. The crust was ok. We normally always get thin crusts, but our sons requested one that wasn't thin crust. The 3 that ate it said it was OK. 2 tried it with the honey, liked it more thinking of it as a crusty bread. I think their opinions on the crust are more about the personal preference/used to thin crust. We got it based on the website, saying it was the most popular. We would personally not get this crust again. I would be interested in trying the oat if we get a thick crust next time. There is nothing wrong with this crust type, just not our preference.Dietary restrictions: We had gluten-free, grain-free people in our group. (The dairy light and low salt people choose to enjoy this meal as a special exception)We ordered 3 different crusts. The Idaho for those with restrictions. We actually felt that was the best of the 3 crusts we ordered. They say it isn't fully gluten-free because it is made in the same kitchen. We don't have anyone with celiac, so I can't speak on how it would affect that. But we didn't have any issues with it. I wish we had ordered the oat crust as our thick option.Parking: We were doing a pick-up at noon on Saturday as college students were coming back from Spring Break. It was busy everywhere, but there were a few spaces around the corner.

Crowded and busy, which means it’s probably pretty good pizza.

The "Buffalo" topping on Sam's thin crust is the best pizza around!

Always excellent pizza and beer. Service is great too. Can get busy at peak times, especially on game days, so plan ahead.

Got the classic thin crust Prairie Special! Medium 12" was enough for 3 of us for lunch. Delicious. Have to wait in line to order. Specials of the day also available by the slice.

Great pizza and the whole clan loved it! Was it the best pizza I ever had, well no probably not but for Ames it's probably one of the best places to eat in town! I have a theory (or learned once) that there are crunchers, chewers, smooshers and suckers. Crunchers like foods of course that are crispy and can get a good crunch. Chewers like to savor it a bit longer with a good chew and well you get the idea. The pizzas we got were all of those things for all Crunchers, Chewers and smooshers for sure and that is very rare. Fresh chewy dough with a light crisp on the outside, juicy vegetables and meats, great flavor and stringy thick cheese. Very tasty sauce to go along with it. We will go here again. Cold beer in frosted mugs and service was quick even when the place had a line almost out the door. Make a visit if you haven't already, it's totally worth it.
