We researched which Japanese restaurant to dine in this area and decided on Wasabi restaurant chain. It offers a unique blend of Asian flavors, but the main theme is Japanese. The generous food portions were noticeable. I did like the kimchi fried rice. I think the ramen is a better choice, but there were some hits and misses to the attention to details, like the ramen soup-to-noodles ratio, the amount of wood ear mushroom used, and it depends on how one defines wonton vs dumpling. Overall, the ambiance and service are satisfactory. Their menu has it own characteristic. I think it was worth our visit.

My fiancee and I went for dinner at Wasabi tonight and holy buckets! Everything was AMAZING! Such a difference from the last time we had eaten from here! Everything was super hot and fresh. Excellent service and food!!Not nearly as good as it usually is and that's a huge disappointment! He had the beef lo mien, flavor was right, but the noodles were like eating glue and way way overcooked. I had the tempura battered California roll and my rice was gummy and the tempura batter was so thick it wasn't cooked all the way thru and the slices...holy cow! Look at them!! Our Dasher Micah was awesome! Rang the doorbell and sent me a pic that it was there. That was a 1st and very very appreciated!! But for $40 Wasabi, I'm not happy

The quality started out excellent when this establishment first opened. Since then, the quality has slowly eroded. They have since also removed their kids menu and merely offer sides for kids now. Extremely disappointing.

We've been here a couple of times when visiting our daughter who attends Iowa State University. Located close to campus, this Wasabi location doesn't compromise authentic Japanese cuisine because it's in a college town. Food always taste great, marinating Japanese flavors into every dish! From appetizers to sushi to main dishes and to drinks, everything is well balanced and decently priced for a sushi restaurant. The restaurant space is elegant, dark wood furnishings, with a couple of tv's discreetly located in the corners of the restaurant so you can still keep an eye on the current college game going on. The greeters for the restaurant was welcoming and kind. Our servers though on our two most recent visits seemed unenthused to be there. Our order was correct, and they kept checking in on us to be sure we had everything we needed, but they just seemed unhappy and bothered. Servers in my opinion don't have to be over that top friendly, but they should make the dining experience at least pleasant. We'll be back again and hopefully the servers will be better.

Service was excellent however, we did find hair in our food and the server took our order back. when we got our check he stated that the manager had put the food back on our check….. I’ve managed and also worked FOH and BOH and any time this was an issue the guest was never charged. As a customer this is disappointing and no manager came to do a table visit?? Would much rather continue to drive to the Ankeny location.

We usually love wasabi but last time we went it was awful! I had been craving sushi since i was pregnant and could finally have it. We ordered 4 rolls. We got the spicy maki combo and all the rolls were dried out and looked like they had been sitting out for a while. We ended up eating a few of those rolls and being grossed out by them.

Don't get me wrong, I love the food here but this restaurant is not maintained well. The bathrooms need a deep clean. They are full of dust. It's surprising for this place being relatively new. Additionally, the kitchen does not practice food safety. It is concerning to see people in the kitchen vaping. I do not understand how management allows this. I don't want to see people touching phones or vaping while preparing my food! Do better Wasabi.

This is one of our absolute favorites in Ames. Their speciality sushi rolls are amazing as are the crispy brussel sprouts. This is our most frequented restaurant here in town and one you don’t want to miss!
