Stopped by the Grumpy Goat in Ankeny on the way to the airport to drop our sons. We had planned on eating at a couple of other spots but they were full for Mother's Day. My son said the fact that the Grumpy Goat was half full should have been our first Red Flag. We looked at the menu to order an app. My wife thought cheese bites looked good then she had to pick herself off the floor. $17.50 for cheese balls. Hard Pass. One son ordered the Elvis Burger. Sorry we are out of bacon. What??!?? We have all worked for restaurants. Zero excuses to be out of anything; bacon, limes. Send someone to HyVee and buy bacon. Decided on the Root Beer Burger. Said it was solid $9.00 burger but way tooo much bun. Ratio off. The problem is they don't charge $9.00. It was $18.50. Son #2 ordered the Caesar Salad with grilled chicken. He is the definitive expert on Caesars. The chicken portion was tiny. Maybe 2 ounces. Shrinkflation we decided. Also not much flavor/Bland. The wife and I passed on ordering. Deciding to eat in Des Moines after the airport drop. Two beers, a salad and a below average burger for $72. Save your time and your pennies. Go elsewhere.

Would not recommend. The food quality does not match the high prices. The atmosphere us not entirely friendly as I've seen customers allowed to over drink. If the prices were a bit less or quality better, that would be lovely. If the atmosphere felt safer (as a woman) I might give it another chance. I've tried both locations now. Do not recommend.

Prices are so insane, we decided just to grab a round and head out... $16.50 for just fries ("French fry flight") and cheese bites for $17.50 Our server was fantastic though- personable, patient, & kind!!

Holy expensive! $18 for chicken strips appetizer???? $18 for a burger??! WOW. Service was fine once we finally got served and food quality was good but can't get over lunch for 3 no drinks no appetizers (had chicken strips as a meal) no desserts the bill was over $60 Hate to say it but might have to look for other lunch options in Ankeny.

Our waiter was awesome and friendly, gave us very good service. Food was ok, but we've had better from there?? The pizza's we ordered basically had no sauce and very dry. All the other food was real good.

The food was amazing cheese cubes for a starter. I had the grinder flatbread and my wife had the pizza burger. The food was at our table very fast. The waitress was great brought us extra drinks without even asking. Highly recommend. We will definitely go back.

Food good, service horrible. Ate here with my family and the food was good but the server waiting on us bad, frustratingly bad. We left a tip reflecting that. 2 days later there was a charge on my card $12 more than I had signed for, conveniently making the tip 20% instead on the intended 10%. Called the manager and she was able to find the receipt and confirmed that the server had accidentally charged my card more and that it wasn’t intentional, lol. So the manager wanted to make it right so she requested our card# to refund the $12. Her idea of making it right was to give me back the money they took. I passed. I’m not giving them my card info again. Maybe it was an accident, maybe not. I’m not going to take a chance with them again.

I tried to leave a review on your website and that was impossible. I’ve been to the Ankeny location previously while visiting from Sioux Falls and this was time was not a great experience. I understand service may be slow on a Sunday but it took forever. When the server was asked to wipe down our extremely sticky table she only wiped down the spot in front of the person who called it to her attention, and that wipe down was with a dirty rag. I had the meat lovers omelette which contained a few pieces of Canadian bacon, none of the other meat that was supposed to be included. When I pointed it out to our server she said, ok. Really? It’s not okay. Some training could go a long way towards having the servers handle more than 1 task at a time. Greet a new table while taking orders at another. Clear off tables when walking to the kitchen to place an order. I felt the quality of food and service was not a $25 meal.
My husband is a big fan of their taco pizza. It’s been over a year since we’ve been back to the grumpy goat, and it wasn’t as busy as we remember. My craft cocktail was delicious, the pizza was exactly what we expected, and overall it was a good experience. We were thankful that our waitress warned us at their pizzas take a long time. Otherwise I think we would’ve been disappointed with a 35 minute wait.

Service was slow and not adequate. Had to ask for silverware and napkin, mixed drink was watered down but still charged for it (after asking for a soda for the poor drink quality) and food was blah. We were warned to not try it but wanted to give it a chance. Save your time and money. Note to owner, if customer says drink is bad and they dont drink it, don't charge your patrons as it is bad business.

Recently edited/changed my review from 4-stars to 3-stars.The last few times I've been in, they have seemed short-staffed and I can't remember the last time I saw the upstairs outdoor patio open (I assume due to staff shortages). In fact, the last time I was here, I sat at a table for about 15 minutes surrounded by other tables with dirty/uncleared dishes, and never saw any staff. Eventually just walked out and went somewhere else. I'll give them another try down the road, but I hope they get their stuff figured out, as it is a nice building & location.

Breakfast today was below average. Place was dirty. Bloody Mary bar full of flies! Prices are outrageous for what you get. Wait staff was good though. Won’t go there again. Spent $120 before tip for four people. Included 4 mimosas but still….

Came around 3 with no one in the restaurant besides my friend and I. Workers were sitting and chatting not too far away and kept glancing when we clearly needed something. When I rose my hand, and nearly shouted that I needed silverware to cut my sandwich because me and my friend were sharing it, he then came over and gave us just a fork! Server did not check on how our food was tasting, and didn’t check on us for 10 min. On top of that the waffle fries could have been cooked more, they were cold and hard. I was a server for 4 years, and service could have been so much better.
