Our server was fantastic. She was so friendly, energetic and remembered us from the last time we were there. We had the Spicy Crunchy Scallop roll, Out of Control Roll and Marilyn Monroll. They were all absolutely fantastic. 10/10 experience.
Updated review:
The general manager reached out to me after I contacted him directly about the food and customer service I received.
While my experience with the Ankeny Wasabi was not pleasant, the GM offered me a gift card to make up for the situation at the Ankeny location. I was hesitant to give Wasabi another try but we have one in Ames so I decided to give it a shot, and I'm very glad I did. The experience at the Ames location was great, from the food all the way to customer service! Our entrees were so good! The appetizers were on point and while we didn't try the sushi this time, it looked equally appetizing. I may not return to the Ankeny location but I will be going back to Wasabi in Ames.
Thank you to the GM for taking my concern seriously. I didn't think I'd go back and here you got me coming back all because you cared enough to make the situation right! That earned the 5 stars on top of a better experience. More companies can learn a thing or two from how you handled that. I really appreciate it!

Take out here used to be great, we’ve had 3 bad experiences now. Dine in is better. Avocado salad was about 1/3rd of the lettuce it used to have, rolls are smushed together. Philly roll was huge globs of cream cheese and fishy salmon. Plus each item was $.35-.65 higher when I picked up after ordering by phone than the menu prices online. I know using a food app is more by a lot, but I asked the hostess who didn’t know and then the manager wouldn’t come out to assist and the hostess just stared at me. Just wanted to know if a %fee was added because of takeout or if the online menu prices from their website were just outdated. Bummer.

The overall experience was a whirlwind and honestly just has left me wanting to select the other locations for future dining. I ordered take out from this location for the first time as I have ordered from other locations in the past. After picking up my order I checked the bag briefly and noticed that I was given the wrong appetizers. I quickly went back in since I was in the parking lot still and explained the situation and they remade me the correct appetizers. Once I got home and unloaded all the food, I realized I was missing more food items including all our sides of rice and soup. The other thing that caught my attention was ordering the sesame chicken came with a sweet and sour sauce you would find at a grocery store and not a sesame sauce. In hindsight I should have read the description more carefully as they said it’s made with a sweet and sour sauce, but I just assumed it would be a sesame sauce due to the title. I called and explained the items that I was missing and that I was confused about the sauce. I felt like the conversation was going back and forth and they originally wanted me to come back out and grab the food I was missing, but I live a little farther so we settled on a partial gift card for my overall order. Overall, it was disappointing to have multiple items on my order incorrect or missing. I do appreciate them offering a partial gift card which is why I’m giving 3 stars for service. Just a forewarning for to-go orders to check all food items before leaving - I will do that in the future!

Wonderful spot in a cute neighborhood. It’s been our go to place for everything from birthdays and bachelorette parties to a family dinner out! I’ve taken my two kids there and the staff is very friendly and sweet with them! The crab roll with cream cheese is to die for! Would recommend 100%

I had an incredible dining experience at this sushi restaurant! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, with a sleek, modern design that still felt comfortable and relaxed.
The sushi itself was absolutely top-notch—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Every bite was a testament to the quality and care that goes into each dish. The specialty rolls were especially impressive, with creative combinations that really worked.
What truly elevated the experience was our server, Julian. He was friendly, attentive, and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu. He made some excellent recommendations based on our preferences and took the time to explain ingredients and pairings, which we really appreciated. Julian struck the perfect balance between professionalism and a genuine, welcoming attitude.
We left feeling full, happy, and already planning our next visit. If you're a sushi lover—or even just sushi-curious—this place is a must-try. And if you get Julian as your server, you're in for an even better experience!

Great spot for delicious food.
Went twice in a couple weeks and enjoyed each visit.
The best of what I've tried includes the spicy garlic edamame and the lunch sushi rolls: crunchy crab and angry dragon.
Dan the manager is a super friendly guy, great customer service. Food is always stellar here, and if you go for happy hour on weekdays you can get it for super cheap. One of my favorite spots in Ankeny.
If you’re looking for the perfect night out in Ankeny, Wasabi is it. From start to finish, everything about our experience was incredible—and that’s thanks to the phenomenal team.
We were greeted by Reese, the host, who was friendly, professional, and made us feel right at home from the second we walked in. It’s rare to feel genuinely welcomed these days, but Reese sets the bar high.
Lexi, our server, was an absolute gem. She was attentive without being overbearing, knew the menu inside and out, and made fantastic recommendations. Her upbeat energy and genuine kindness made the entire meal that much better—she truly went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect.
And a huge shoutout to Alex, the bartender, who kept the good vibes flowing with expertly crafted cocktails. Not only were the drinks delicious, but his laid-back, personable style made the bar feel like the place to be. He clearly takes pride in his craft, and it shows.
Combine that outstanding service with fresh, flavorful sushi and a cool, modern atmosphere, and you’ve got a place that’s worth coming back to again and again.
Wasabi Ankeny is a standout—thanks to Reese, Lexi, and Alex, our night was unforgettable. Highly recommend!
