There is nothing more iconic than a dive bar in a small Iowa town, and like many of them, this serves really good food at an equally good price. I stumbled across Gordie's when I was in Centerville picking up shelving. I happen to adore dive bars, and this checked all of the boxes. Dark, with lots of neon, framed and signed publicity photos of celebrities, pennies inlaid on the bar, friendly and efficient service. At 2:00 on a Monday, there were plenty of people coming and going, playing arcade games, throwing back drinks, talking about anything and everything. I had a medium-rare cheeseburger which was perfectly done, a side of fries, and 2 cans of Pepsi. Everything was very good! The burger was large and tasty, with generous amounts of lettuce, tomato and onion. So many times fries are greasy and a little soggy, while these had just the right amount of crunch and were very flavorful. My total bill was $12.50, which was comparable to a fast food place and 100 times better. The owner is Melinda, whose mother Gordie has semi-retired, and Melinda is a talkative, petite fireball, as well as an amazing artist. If you are in the Centerville area, this is a must!

The food was fantastic. The service was fine, but no one came and asked if we'd like our drinks re-filled. The atmosphere was a bar. Music and voices overpowering. All that being said, the people there were VERY friendly and personable with their food being above average!

Hostess/waitress went out of her way to be polite..courteous and professional! Food was excellent and very well priced. It was well worth the drive from Des Moines to visit here! .

I can't put an honest review here. Gordie's "Is what it is" some nights it's a great time laughs, love, and giggles. Other times it's as nitty and gritty as any and all dive bars.
Great dive bar with breakfast.

Food was just ok. Atmosphere was dark and the womens bathroom could use some work. It was way to dark in the bar during lunch hour to me. Felt like they didn't want me to see something. ?♀️

I was in town for my sister's wedding when I was told to stop by Gordie's Bar for a drink. Friday night we did stop in for a drink and it was good.Definitely a townie bar. Chatted with a woman who claimed to be Gordie's daughter (Irene? She was very intoxicated and it took us a while to figure out her connection with the bar. But we did finally figure it out.) and that we should bring the party over after the wedding. With full intention of doing that Saturday night. The bar is right next to The Majestic, where the wedding was happening. I don't know if there's bad blood between the two owners but Gordie made it very clear that she could not handle herself professionally in front of potential customers. The one way road that both businesses share was blocked off, WITH Centerville Police Department approval, for wedding photos. This took 45 minutes to an hour. The event manager of The Majestic was with us helping to direct the little bit of traffic to use the next road to get to their destination. This caused major issues with Gordie who thought it would be appropriate to yell, curse and flip us off for blocking the road. It was 1pm and if someone really needed to get to the bar then they just needed to take the alternate route. This woman continued to yell at the wedding party, photographer and any other person walking by.How absolutely disgusting for this woman to talk to anyone that way. Thankfully the event manager was there to deal with the situation. She did an amazing job handling it and I give her 5 stars for her professionalism in that moment. But the behavior I watched from Gordie was enough for me to let the the entire wedding know that they should not give her any business of any kind. It was sad that she chose to act like that when she is the face of her business. Very sad. But thankfully with public reviews I can share this story. No apology was given to anyone and honestly I don't think she would actually mean it if she did.Gordie's Bar: 0 ⭐️The Majestic: 5 ⭐️

It's a dive bar. Nothing more nothing less.
Tender and juicy burgers, crunchy fries, great music, and a friendly atmosphere hard to beat.

Good bloody Mary, for breakfast...but IT stopped there. Ordered ham, 3 eggs over medium, and hash browns with cheese. Ham tough as nails, hash browns served cold with no cheese, eggs were served sunny side up and RAW!!! NASTY!!!
