The service was great. We really enjoyed the food. It was our anniversary. They made us feel special....
We celebrated our anniversary with a wonderful evening out. A reserved booth was decorated. Service was impeccable. Our dinner was highlighted with a lobster appetizer that was cut into bite size pieces, breaded and fried. We'll be back.
Spectacular in every way. Service was absolutely top notch throughout. Food was delectable from apps to dessert - if you want a perfectly cooked steak, I'd make your reservation now and stop thinking about it.
We were only in town for 4 days and came here twice! Absolutely incredible each time. Steaks cooked to perfection. A Delmonico that would make the original proud! Mushrooms on point, service and staff amazing as usual! They put the GRAND in 801 Grand!
Always a favorite special occasion spot! Our mush haves are the hash browns, the grapefruit martini and the truffle butter mushroom ragout topper for the steaks. Service is always exceptional. It's the complete experience with amazing food to match!
Service was outstanding! Unfortunately, the food didn't quite live up to the occasion. The Beef Carpaccio was easily the highlight of the meal—absolutely delicious. The wedge salad was also solid. We ordered the $165 Tomahawk Ribeye with the bone, cooked medium rare. While the center was cooked to temp, the steak lacked seasoning and flavor overall. It also didn't have the satisfying texture or chew you'd expect from a cut at that price point. The macaroni and cheese was quite bland, though the scalloped potatoes were good. The green beans had decent flavor but were overcooked and mushy. Dessert—the chocolate cake—was good. Overall, we left disappointed, especially considering we spent $336 before tip (around $400 total). For a birthday dinner, we were hoping for a more memorable experience. We've been to all the steak spots in town and hadn't visited 801 in a while, so we decided to give it another try. Unfortunately, it didn't meet expectations this time—though again, the service truly was excellent.
801 Chophouse was one of our best steak experiences. My Dad and I went together to celebrate Father's Day and my Dad ordered the Prime Rib and had it grilled at the end to seal in the juices and he said it was one of the best prime ribs he has ever had in 82 years.
Family and I stopped here for dinner. It was excellent all the way through. Our waitress was excellent. I had the petite fillet as did my son, my wife had the sea bass and my daughter had the salmon. Everything came out hot and perfectly cooked, exactly as described on the menu for the steaks. I had the wedge salad and my wife and daughter each had side salads, all very good. For desert we had a monstrous slice of New York cheesecake with blueberry topping. That was excellent as well. It was a great meal all the way around.
We went for my husband's birthday dinner before going to a show at the Civic Center and it was absolutely amazing! The staff and server we phenomenal and the food ever more!! We have found a new special occasion dinner location! Thank you for everything!
Great dining option to celebrate special occasions! Food was delicious and specials were outstanding

Great food, great service and perfect ambiance. Petite Fillet, 1lb Lobster, Caesar Salad with blue cheese dressing tossed. Truffle Fries for an appetizer with Belvedere Xtra dirty martini w/blue-cheese olives. Moscato, ice cream for desert w/hot fudge. Ready to go back soon!
One of the best meals I've eaten. The creamed corn is to die for. The hash browns is all you need to order but please order the prime rib. Yummmmm
Excellent service was able to pop in last minute and have a great dinner with my wife. Salad was fresh and crisp; steaks cooked to perfection. Belvedere Martini's up extra dirty! They know how to do it.
My wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary there last night. Great attention to detail and what a terrific evening. Thank you for making it special.
Can't beat this place! Best in Des Moines for a nice meal. From food to the service they never miss a beat.
