For some reason it takes 35 minutes to get an order of fried chicken when its the only order up. I saw someone who came in after me get their whole order after I'd been waiting about 15 minutes. Bad kitchen management

Great place! I’m Korean-American, so I grew up eating Korean food. This place does a great job of finding creative and delicious ways to use traditional Korean ingredients! Restaurant was very clean and modern, staff was friendly and wait time was reasonable. 5/5 will be back!

Wonderful local owned Korean wing joint. Owner is an awesome guy, very informative on the menu items and explained methods for ultimate food quality. Highly recommended!

We love Basic Bird! Great flavors, great food, great experience. Appreciate that the menu changes up periodically, pushing us to try new things even when we have our favorites.

The restaurant has a nice vibe and the staff was friendly, but the chicken didn’t live up to expectations. I ordered Korean fried chicken hoping for that signature crispy crunch, but it came out soggy and lacked the texture I was looking for. The flavor was decent -I got the doubledunk—but the consistency really took away from the experience. Might give it another try in the future, but for now, it was just okay.
Another great dinner at Basic Bird for dinner tonight. Double dunk is still my favorite but we tried the sweet potatoes and the spam gimbap as new items. As always, BB did not disappoint. Thank you for recommending having the sauces o the side for my SIL and for the ribs. they were delightful. I wanted to be the glasses guy so I could throw my glasses after a bite.
great staff great prices and AMAZING food will definitely be eating here again next time we are in Des Moines
My least favorite of the Korean chicken shops in Des Moines. Chicken was dry and the fried rice had to much seasoning in it to the point you couldn't taste anying else. Just one note.

Yummy! Their chicken baskets were decently priced since you get 5 pc chicken, rice, and 3 sides. I got the honey butter, which was a little bland but still enjoyed it nonetheless. Fries were crispy and well-seasoned. Honestly, compared to restaurants like Applebee's, Basic Bird is way better in terms of food quality and price.

The building has a very cute mural on the side and is in a historic part of town. There were plenty of parking, although the spots were slightly small. The young lady at the counter was very friendly and helpful.
The food: I ordered the Bird Basket, consisting of boneless chicken (thighs), choice of sauce and 3 sides. I chose a 5 piece with Double Dunk sauce, Miso Mac and Cheese Cabbage Kimchee, and Korean potato salad. The chicken was hot and crispy, cooked fresh to order and very moist on the inside. The flavor was a touch bland, not bad, but not what I had expected. The Kimchee was saltier than I remembered others having been, and very moldy flavored beyond that. The Korean potato salad was creamy, and had good flavor, very similar to a classic potato salad. Miso Mac and cheese was well cooked, creamy and had a nice flavor. Miso was not very pronounced though.
Overall solid food, but a bit more bland than I expected. I would stop back in if I happened to be in the area, but most likely wouldn't make a special trip for it.

I ordered takeout here and I've gotta say everything was delicious. I did the $15 boneless deal with three sides. Gochujang wasn't quite hot enough. I got fries, potato salad and the mac & cheese. Very tasty but the tato salad and mac & cheese were two bites big. Pump up the sides and spice! I need moar! I will order again.
