My least favorite of the Korean chicken shops in Des Moines. Chicken was dry and the fried rice had to much seasoning in it to the point you couldn't taste anying else. Just one note.

Yummy! Their chicken baskets were decently priced since you get 5 pc chicken, rice, and 3 sides. I got the honey butter, which was a little bland but still enjoyed it nonetheless. Fries were crispy and well-seasoned. Honestly, compared to restaurants like Applebee's, Basic Bird is way better in terms of food quality and price.

The building has a very cute mural on the side and is in a historic part of town. There were plenty of parking, although the spots were slightly small. The young lady at the counter was very friendly and helpful.
The food: I ordered the Bird Basket, consisting of boneless chicken (thighs), choice of sauce and 3 sides. I chose a 5 piece with Double Dunk sauce, Miso Mac and Cheese Cabbage Kimchee, and Korean potato salad. The chicken was hot and crispy, cooked fresh to order and very moist on the inside. The flavor was a touch bland, not bad, but not what I had expected. The Kimchee was saltier than I remembered others having been, and very moldy flavored beyond that. The Korean potato salad was creamy, and had good flavor, very similar to a classic potato salad. Miso Mac and cheese was well cooked, creamy and had a nice flavor. Miso was not very pronounced though.
Overall solid food, but a bit more bland than I expected. I would stop back in if I happened to be in the area, but most likely wouldn't make a special trip for it.

I ordered takeout here and I've gotta say everything was delicious. I did the $15 boneless deal with three sides. Gochujang wasn't quite hot enough. I got fries, potato salad and the mac & cheese. Very tasty but the tato salad and mac & cheese were two bites big. Pump up the sides and spice! I need moar! I will order again.

I loved their loaded fries until today. I’m just not a big fan of big chunks of bacon like this especially undercooked. Hopefully we can switch to crispy bacon bits.

Overall not great, me and my friend were excited to try this food! We ordered an order of teokbokki to share and crispy chicken dumplings. We were told it was about a 10 min wait, absolutely no problem! We waited and they ran our food out to us which was very nice! However when we got the teokbokki the rice cakes were very flat and mushy, there were also about 10 in total (3 of which were burnt and not edible) and 90% of the plate is the onions and cheese. It also looks absolutely nothing like the picture which I understand can be hard but this was just misleading. I also understand that it is called cheesy teokbokki but this was a little much. The dumplings came out in a dumpling skirt, normally very enjoyable. However it was burnt and almost impossible to tear apart and eat the dumplings. Overall the service and atmosphere was very lovely, however the food was not enjoyable. The food was also not true to the authentic food, it felt very watered down.

The chicken is cooked very well, and they give good sides, solid for the pricing.
However, I felt they could put more flavoring in terms of most of the sauce options they have here.
They don't tell you this but you have to ask specifically for dipping sauce and they charge for it, so be aware.

My go to restaurant in Des Moines. Celiac friendly. Food has a lot of flavor and good portions. You will pay a lot more for a meal in a fancier restaurant and it won't taste as good.

Wings were were good, we got the double dunk and enjoyed it. Mac and Cheese was very good. We tried the kimchi but didn't finish more than a bite or two apiece.
You order up front at the counter and they have you pay before getting your food, register defaults to a 20% tip which is lame. With no waiter or waitress who am I tipping? And I haven't even seen the food by the point of payment, so what am I tipping for? Tipping and hoping the food is good and i like the experience? Just an extra fee for food I guess.
