The staff are helpful and kind, but plan on waiting in line. I love they are a small business.The ice cream is usually great. Sometimes I have to try a few before finding one I want to eat a whole scoop. I wish there was a bit more consistency with having a few solid flavors. They seem to just randomly rotate through. Then when you go back after finding a favorite it's just gone. If you're into interesting flavors/variety they definitely are good at that.

My family and I live out of town, but we have frequented Black Cat Ice Cream while in Des Moines as they have creative and wonderful ice cream. I have recommended their ice cream numerous times.I have an extended family member we were planning a special birthday party as they are in the fight of their life as they battle stage four cancer.I reached out to Black Cat Ice Cream multiple times to pre-purchase a fairly large amount and variety of their ice creams for the party, but received no reply.I, in hope of them understanding the importance of my calls, stated in one of my voice messages the nature of my family member’s illness. I highly recommend Black Cat Ice Cream! They have a lot of unique homemade ice cream flavors that are creative and seasonably appropriate. It’s a fun experience with the ice cream options and the atmosphere in the shop and outdoor seating options. I’ve tried their scoops of ice cream, and the ice cream nuggets dipped in fudge. It doesn’t matter what I get, so far I’ve been happy with my selections each time. If you love ice cream and are looking for something fun and unique, this is the place for you!

The best ice cream in town. The grievance I have is that they are not bern consistent with their being open as stated. It should not be a concern of a customer to wonder if the business is open. The customer should know and surprise closings should be communicated on their website or their phone (which they often do not answer). The fact that this is a pondering of mine when I want ice cream indicates that they have been not consistent.
