Both times I went to Roy's, I felt like I was treated rudely (2022 & 2023). I asked if there were boats to rent or maybe a river cruise I could take for my wife & me >> their response was "short", somewhat "rude", and they told me they never heard of such a thing. I told them I had seen pontoon boats on the Des Moines River right in front of their restaurant and the fact that people told me there were river trips available. Add to this = last summer, I went "wave running" for the 1st time in my life on the Des Moines River. And some guy came out from Capt Roys & yelled at us for going too fast. Problem was....it was some kid well in front of us that went too fast. We did not! My friend that was with me is a well-respected leader for the city of Des Moines.

Capt Roy’s is my go to place when cycling or driving. Great food in a comfortable atmosphere. The best trivia in town, with format that doesn’t allow internet look-ups. Fun to be by the water and bands all year long on weekends. Locally owned. What more could you ask for? Come check it out!

Visited for the Vintage fair. Drink service was good, atmosphere was great, sunny day sitting by the river. Food service horrible. Simple order of cheese curds, never received …90 minutes..asked … told to give it another 15 minutes. Finally we had to leave… got a shrug & a sorry… no refund. We had paid cash & tipped well originally. ?
Great food at decent prices. Nice outdoor seating area. A perfect backdrop for a night of music or just to hang out with friends.

Was my first time ever going to this place and it was terrible. Person taking my order appeared to be on drugs and couldn't even take my orders. (Two of us paying separately.) Then another person came to take my orders and gave a discount for the first order but not the other but whatever. On top of that the menu is very limited and tasteless. Definitely won't be going back.
