Glad we stopped here on our three day stay in Des Moines. Enjoyed the friendly staff who was patient with our slow decision making on what to order. I had the Philly, my spouse had the Chicago dog, kids had hamburger, and grilled cheeses, and regular dog. The potato salad and baked beans were average, but the potato chips were awesome!

Chicago Dog, in Drake's Dog Town (named for the Drake Bulldog, not the restaurant) is a fast food emporium for all expat Chicago refugees. Featuring menu items we all loved from our favorite Chicago joints. You can't hold yourself out to be a Chicago style restaurant unless you serve the one and only Chicago style all beef Vienna hot dogs and Polish sausages, Chicago Dog does just that. A true Chicago hot dog consists of a Vienna natural casing wiener served on a poppy seed bun that is "run through the garden", meaning yellow ball park mustard, bright green relish, chopped onions, tomato wedges, kosher dill pickle spear, sport peppers and celery salt; "NO KETCHUP!". Or as we say in Chicago "No K 17" no ketchup after you reach 17 years old. Chicago Dog also offers Italian Beef. a sandwich that originated at "Al's Italian Beef " on Taylor Street in Little Italy. Thinly sliced roast beef with a spicy gravy soaking the hard-crusted Italian bread and topped with giardiniera (hot peppers). Joe, the owner, tells me he gets his Italian Beef from the same company in Chicago that produces the beef served at Al's. Chicago Dog also offers Italian Sausage on a bun. If you are really looking for a Taylor Street experience, try the Italian Combo, Italian Beef and Sausage. Of course, Chicago Dog also serves fries and chips. Chicago dog has daily specials. This place is not fancy but it offers the best Chicago style sandwiches west of the Loop.

Taste of Chicago right here in Des Moines. I haven't been to Chicago in years but stepping in here makes me feel like I'm there again. They are very friendly and welcoming! The prices are great and right along with the atmosphere. Try the Italian Beef Sandwich. You will love it! The Chicago dog is good as well but the Italian Beef sandwhich is by far the best!! If you're in the Drake area, check it out!!

I'm saving 5 starts for something absolutely mind blowing but I'm glad this place came back I was a big fan of this place when it was on 6th ave and I feel like the other incarnations changed a little bit but the drake location is right back on the money the dogs are on point and the onion rings bahhgawd! Best onion rings in town for sure!!

the dogs and gyros are excellent. the potatoe salad, cloe slaw, and baked beans rock. the homemade chips are the topping to any meal.

Very nice service, it as quick and cheap. Great place for lunch. People always underestimate a hot dog. Look for the daily specials for a lunch deal and split with a friend. The business around the area are also as good for other choices and dessert. Parking can be found on the street or in the back alley.

What an enjoyable restaurant in the Drake area. I got the hot dog combo (hot+french fries+a pop). I took my order to go....it was a little soggy when I got home---that is totally on me as I had a long drive. Would definitely dine in the next time. The employees were very friendly and my to.go.oeder was made very quickly. There are a number of choices besides hot dogs. They had everything from Chicago Italian hit beef, to gyros, to Rubens. Just remember they are not open on Sundays or Mondays
