Chicago Speakeasy is a Des Moines mainstay. Noted for their great salad bar and prime rib. I don't eat prime rib so I can't attest to that. The only thing I can say is the last two times I have gone, what i ordered has been disappointing. I think it is hit or miss on some items.

5 years ago I gave a 5 star review. I'm updating my review. The steak was really good. Some of the salad bar was good. The fettuccine pasta has absolutely no flavor, my teenage daughter ate two bites and stopped. I confirmed with a single Bite. She didnt eat anything else and the waitress never seemed to notice.
The service felt rushed and they weren't busy. She kept reaching over the plates of food that we were eating and trying to clear everything off the table when we were still eating. She never brought a soda that was offered for 15 minutes and we had to ask when our main courses came out.
We were also charged $7 for a toddler to eat literally 4 tablespoons of the oreo pudding from the salad bar. He ate that and my food and they charged us for a full child's meal.
We'd been wanting to come back here for so long but it wasn't worth it.

Stopped for lunch on a Monday. The place has a neat, old super club vibe, and the decor is very cool. They were busy, but service was quick. The food was great. The salad bar is amazing. The prime rib special was awesome. Highly recommended place.

Tried it for the 1st time this weekend. Thought we would get there before the rush and we did, but it was still really busy. Trying to get to the salad bar was rather stressful. Air conditioning on the roof was really loud and wasn't really relaxing lostening to that...just alot of stuff going on at the time we were there. It was very expensive and I'm not sure that we will go again.

My husband and I went here for the first time the other night, and it was one of the best dining out experiences of our entire lives! The atmosphere was amazing, the service was awesome, and even post-Covid and with inflation how it is, we were so, so happy with the quality and quantity of the food! And I loved getting to try an apple dumpling for the first time! ??
