Stopped into Flying Mango as we were driving through Des Moines, and simply put: we will be back. Everything we had (from the catfish cake to the brisket to the Heath bread pudding) was immaculate. Not only were the portions generous, but the staff were also exceedingly generous hosts. Our waitress and the owner went out of their way to make sure we had the best possible experience. First time here, but won’t be last! Everything was great! Food, service was top notch! The owner, Mike, is the nicest guy. He walks around and checks in on the customers. He’s super interesting to talk to! Can’t wait to go back. Will be part of the dining rotation going forward!
We had the shrimp pontchatrain and the root beer and molasses braised pork.
The shrimp pontchatrain was to die for. Absolutely delicious, lick your plate clean good. The crispy garlic bread to go with it added a nice crunch to the dish as well.
The root beer and molasses braises pork was not good at all. Definitely would not recommend. I thought the root beer would add some sweetness but it just made the flavor really weird.
